follow up on pop-up or adv-clip invasion (couldn't figure out how to reply)

semi-porn advertisments invasion, muscle-building and breast exoanding but now lots more, all kinds of autoload clip adverts run all the time
I got some mail back from Karim/”Kardotim” two days ago, but can’t figure out how to follow up.
I step forward: the problem is as he seemed the think somewhere in my firefox browser. Google Chrome loaded without any of this stuff.
My biggest worry is that readers will see these popups or whatever and not return.
Otherwise I can live with them. How can I find out of 3rd party users see what I see (I doubt it, but?).Changing to i/e orChrome means loss of history file(s) and hassle, so I’d like to stick with FF if possible.
Many thanks – and PLEASE LET ME KNOW HOW I CAN BOUNCE THE BACK – THE INCOMING is sited as “no reply:.
Thanks again

Are you perhaps running any extensions or add-ons in Firefox? if so, please try to disable these and see if that resolves the issue.
Looking forward to your reply.

That’s a good idea but will take some time to actuate
In the meanwhile: can you verify that for readers to open my blog etc. is safe – i.e. that these same ads won’t “infect” their browserI’ll do your test tonite and be back in touch hopefully with a “thank you”.
Cheers

Hi again
(a temporary check).
Tried IE 9 and there are no ads anywhere.
Maybe I’m wasting my/your time with FF, but…?Just noticed something that may help figure it out:
First, the problem started +/- when my browser was hijacked by
http://www.hotstartsearch.com/ … which is still there. It interrupts searches randomly with added pages and followup links
also something called WhitesmokeSecond: with my blog: there are none of these “ads” if you don’t log-in.
While with Youtube they come up as soon as you load the youtube.com site, even without logging in.
Does this mean that Youtube is the source of these mal-ads?

Have you tried disabled browser extensions/add-ons in Firefox? It seems that one of these is causing this.
I also recommend installing a Virus/Security scanner to prevent malicious software on your computer

dear kardotim/karim
You were 99% right. I went down the list of all the FF plugins and extensions and disabled all the ones that I don’t remember OK-ing: then like that the ad-clips all disappeared.
The ads have all gone. But one small thing remains: a few words here and there display (in FF) as links, and are indeed links to ads.
But some legitimate: Amex, etc. None linked to that horrid stuff before. My last question then is: if a user or friends opens the site in FF, will he/she see the links highlighted, or, if even yes, does that risk getting the same malware onto the user’s machine?
Sorry for trying your patience – this time ’round should do it!

I’m glad it worked out for you:)

They won’t, unless they run malicious software or browser add-ons on their computer. This is something we can’t prevent and they will high likely see the same issue on other sites too.
