Follow Widget

I have the Follow Blog widget enabled on my blog. In the past few months, I have received over 50 emails that say ‘EMAIL ADDRESS just started following you at http://artwithmsem.wordpress.com. They will receive an email every time you publish a post. Congratulations.’ However, my follow counter says that I have 20 followers. Why don’t the numbers match?

When checking your followers are you viewing the WordPress.com or Email followers? There’s 2 tabs on top of that white box.

Your wordpress.com subscribers are found here https://wordpress.com/my-stats/?blog_subscribers
You can also use: https://NAME_OF_BLOG.wordpress.com/wp-admin/index.php?page=stats
*replace NAME_OF_BLOG in that URL with the actual name of your site.
Note that the title there includes Publicize followers from social networks. https://en.support.wordpress.com/publicize/
Your email only subscribers are here https://wordpress.com/my-stats/?blog_subscribers&type=email

They are spam, and those followers are unfollowing your site the moment after they confirm the subscription. We don’t know why they’re doing this – most likely they’re trying to get you to email them so they can get hold of your actual email address, so please don’t do that – but we’re working on blocking them from following completely. For now, it’s best just to ignore them.
