Follow widget vs RSS
-
I realized only now that though I had titled my Follow invitation (follow to receive word of new posts by email…) I was actually using an RSS Feed function. If I replace this with the FOLLOW BY EMAIL widget, will I lose my current readership, all of whom signed up via RSS? Dumb question, probably, but want to stay on the side of caution before making changes. Thank you.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

No you will not lose them. Anyone can subscribe to the RSS Feed on any public blog and they will not be affected at all.
You can set up email subscriptions by using this guide > http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/follow-blog-widget/
If you would like a follow button to appear on the bottom right hand corner of your site for those who do not have WordPress.com accounts see here >

You can customize the contact form with multiple fields, change the email address where you’ll be notified, and mark feedbacks as spam from your dashboard. http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact-form/

Note: As a spammer prevention you are limited to sending out 10 invitations at one point in time. -

So if I replace the RSS follow option with the email function, bloggers who wish to read my posts off their reader will not be able to? Do some bloggers offer readers both options? I have seen only one or the other on blogs. Thanks much.

Whether or not your post the RSS feed URL by using this widget http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/rss-links-widget/ it’s common knowledge what the RSS feed URL is and anyone can link to it.
