Followed Blog Titles Changed
-
Hello, everyone. I’m new at this, so if anyone has a solution, please make it simple as I do not know all the proper terms in this blogging world yet. That said… here’s my problem —-
In “Reader>>Blogs I Follow>>Edit:” I have 18 blogs listed as those I am currently following. I just found, and learned within the past couple days how to manually add to this list.
Today, I discovered how to further customize my blog, and added a few widgets. I already had one widget (blogroll), but, that was a nice accident – LOL. I didn’t know it was a widget. I have been using the theme “Tarski” since about September (perhaps longer, but not sure).
After adding [more] widgets, one of which is the “Links” widget, three of the blogs I have listed as “Blogs I Follow” now have the title of MY blog on them, though if you click on them, they direct to the blogs intended.
I thought I could fix this by simply un-following the affected blogs, then re-entering in the “edit” feature of the Reader. While they initially showed in the list with their respective blog titles, after the page refreshed, they reverted again to the title of MY blog. When I went to look at them on my blog, the three affected blogs still are listed with my blog’s title. This is the case whether the “Blogs I Follow” are in list or grid.
I even signed out, closed my browser (set to dump the cache upon each close), relaunched my browser and signed in again…only to find that nothing had changed.
How can I get these three blogs displayed with their respective and proper titles? I can find no way to edit the blog titles, or any other info about the followed blogs except at what frequency I wish to receive emails, if at all. Will I have to unfollow everyone, then start my list all over again?? Or is there a way somewhere to edit the info on followed blogs?
Thanks in advance for any help.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

We enter the URLs of blogs we follow here https://wordpress.com/following/edit/ and what the site titles are makes no difference at all. You are subscribing to posts published on a specific site. Site titles can be changed by the blog owners as often as they wish so they do not appear where you think they ought to be.

@ juanstar,
I didn’t find any instances of a title in your Blogs I Follow widget being “My Blog,” presently. However, three of them were mistitled with your website title, Tales of Penny Layne. This is not a case of the websites in question not having assigned a title, as I initially suspecte. Each of the websites with the mistitled link in your Blogs I Follow widget has a title.
Could be a bug. I’ll tag the thread for Staff attention.

I am aware, timethief, that “site titles can be changed by the blog owners,” but that was not the issue. Their “site titles” (three of them) have been mysteriously replaced with the title of my blog.
Thanks, doc. My apologies if I led anyone to believe that the the titles of any of the blogs were “My Blog.” I was trying to emphasize that three of those I follow, were now labelled with the title of my blog, “Tales of Penny Layne.”
Thank you also for tagging the thread. In the meanwhile however, should I just leave things as they are and hope that something more will come of this thread/issue? I feel bad that visitors to my blog will not see the actual blog that I have taken the time to look at and appreciate and want to share with others. I also feel that the owners of those blogs are cheated out of the same level of exposure/acknowledgement as the other blogs in my list of followed blogs. Additionally, some of those blog owners also follow my blog, and could surely notice the problem if they were to actually come back to my blog page rather than check out a new post that arrived in email, or on their own “Blogs I Follow” page.

You said “MY blog” which should have been clear. Boy do I feel stupid right now.

It’s up to you whether or not to leave it, but if you don’t then Staff won’t be able to see it as readily. They’d have to ask you to activate the widget again. Then you’d have to wait for them to return to your case again.
You can add links to those website mistitled in that widget elsewhere. For example, create a text widget with links to each of them. See the support page Text Widget Links.
-
Or create a custom menu, including only links to those websites mistitled in your Blogs I Follow widget. The menu can be displayed in the header area (header navigation bar), or in the sidebar with a Custom Menu widget.
-
If you use a custom menu, though, you might have to replace the Homepage (“HOME”) link. This can be done by just adding it to the custom menu using the Links tool..

Thanks again… I had not thought about that. I will leave it as it is. :) I might check out the Text Widget, but for now…maybe I’ve done enough damage as it is… LOL.
As for the “my blog” thing… no worries. Not knowing what the situation really was, I can see how it could have been interpreted differently than how I intended.

Doc, and to anyone else who might have been interested in the outcome –
Today, when I signed in, every blog in my list of “Blogs I Follow” all have their proper blog titles. I don’t know what happened, if it was discovered there was a glitch and it’s been taken care of or what. If it was the Glitch-N-Bug-Fixing Fairies… then I thank them! LOL
