Followed sites

  • Unknown's avatar

I don’t follow any sites/blogs but when I go to manage followed sites I see it says sites:1 meaning that I follow 1 site but if I look below there are no sites listed and I’m not sure why this is there is this a glitch

  • Unknown's avatar

Also before this there were 4 sites there that I don’t believe I put so I unfollowed them are there automatic sites that are followed on word press

When you register a new site on WordPressdotcom, you are automatically signed up to follow your own site, but all the sites you follow should appear in your Manage Followed Sites here: https://wordpress.com/following/edit

It might also be possible that you are following Tags in the Reader.

I don’t appear to be following any tags or any sites. The only thing I see is sites:1 when I look in mange followed sites but I am clearly not following any sites

I’ve gone ahead and tagged this for Staff assistance to see if they can unravel the mystery. Please be patient for their reply. :)

  • Hi there,

It looks like the counter on your followed sites is not resetting correctly, but you’re definitely not following any sites. I’m unable to reproduce this on a test account, though so it’s most likely just a glitch with the counter on your account.

It will most likely fix itself the next time we push a software update from our end.

I actually use word press on my phone when I noticed this could that be a contributing factor

Also I have a second word press account (not site/blog an account) that I don’t use is there a way to delete it

  • I actually use word press on my phone when I noticed this could that be a contributing factor

I see the same thing in your account on my computer, so it’s not the app. But it’s really just a glitch and not something you need to be concerned about.

Also I have a second word press account (not site/blog an account) that I don’t use is there a way to delete it

WordPress.com username accounts cannot be deleted, but you can deactivate it by locking it up with a throwaway email address and a long random password. That way no one, including you, will be able to recover access to the account again:

What do you mean by throwaway email address?

  • Unknown's avatar

Check out Mailinator, GuerillaMail and other similar utilities that provide a one-time mailbox.

The idea is that you are changing and removing your personal information in order to walk away from your account, so you won’t need the email address again. :)

On my account I have an email address that has since been delete and the password is changed to a random string. Does this work the same
Also does things such as mailing For just simply provide a random email address

Do I simply enter a random address. That is how I understand mailinator to work

I just attempted to use mail intake but it tells me that I can’t use that email address what do I do

  • On my account I have an email address that has since been delete and the password is changed to a random string.

If your other account has a deleted email address attached to it, then you can just set a long random password and you’ll be locked out of the account, yes. If the email address no longer exists, no one will be able to reset the password in future.

I just attempted to use mail intake but it tells me that I can’t use that email address what do I do

I’m not sure what you’re trying to do? Are you trying to change the email for this account, or for the other one you mentioned? If it’s for the other one, see what I said above.

If it’s for this account, your alexchristof account, you’ll need to create a valid temporary email address first. Then change your account email to that address, and confirm the change. Then delete the temporary address so it cannot be used to reset your account password any more.

Please be aware that if you do this, we won’t be able to help you regain access to this account in future, should you ever decide you want it back, so only follow these steps if you are sure you don’t want this username and account at all any more.

I have attempted to put in a random email address from mailinator but it said that I was not able to use that address. The account I would like to delete is the one I am talking on right now but I am unable to change the email address to the random one

  • Unknown's avatar

Also I don’t if it has been mention but what was the issue with my followed sites question regarding why it was showing sites:1 while following no site. Sorry if it has already been mentioned I must have missed it

  • what was the issue with my followed sites question regarding why it was showing sites:1 while following no site

As I mentioned above, that is likely just a glitch, with a piece of data that’s stuck in your account. That should clear itself up in time.

I have attempted to put in a random email address from mailinator but it said that I was not able to use that address.

Without knowing the actual email you’re trying to use I can’t check what’s going on. I don’t see any attempted email changes in your account, though.

Can you try instead to sign up for a Yahoo or Gmail address, and then delete that address again after you’ve confirmed the email change. The end result will be the same.
