follower can't follow

I am a new blogger. I have had four people successfully follow the blog. One friend has tried, but was not able to follow. When she tried again, she got a “pending sub” response. I do not see her in my “followers” list and I have not had to approve any followers before. I am using the Big Brother Theme. Is this a browser issue or something else? Anyone else have this problem?

I am not sure I know her WordPress.COM username. Her email is (email visible only to moderators and staff) Would she need to sign up to Word Press and get a username to follow my blog? I don’t think the other followers did. I apologize for my ignorance on this one.
