Follower counts
-
I would like to know if the number of followers reported on my blog include those with email addresses that are no longer valid.
So, if a person subscribes using his company emial, and then changes jobs, and then subscribes again to my blog using a new e-mail, will my follower count number include his old, and presumably invalid, email, or not?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hey Scott,
If the email subscriber hasn’t removed the old address as a follower from your site, then yes, they are still counted.
They can manually remove their subscriptions, using the following instructions:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/following/#how-to-unfollow-a-blog-if-youre-a-wordpress-com-user
The instructions at that link will talk your subscriber through the process, whether they are a WordPress.com user, or not.
I hope this helps! If you have any other concerns, drop me a note. Thanks much!

Hi Robyn,
Thanks for the quick and clear answer – much appreciated!
So an obvious, but maybe not so simple, suggestion is to ask the WP developer genies to recognize an invalid e-mail address, and remove it from our list of e-mail followers.
Less outbound mail for WP, and more accurate follower counts for us bloggers.
Thanks for considering this!

Scott,
Thanks so much for the idea. It’s a great one. I will pass it along.
If you have the time to do it, I also recommend that you add your suggestion here:

Thanks for considering this :)
Best to you.
