Follower has lost access to my site

  • Unknown's avatar

I have two followers that have lost access to my site. When trying to visit, it tells them that this page no longer has connection. They are very upset that they are missing my blogs. Why would they not be able to access it when others are having no problems?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Can you find out the exact error message that there soon? That might help narrow down the source of the problem. Also, can you ask them the exact URL there on Wednesday see the error message?

    Hi
Please read the reply that I received from my follower

Whether I put wordpress.com OR laylagoessouth into my search bar, it comes up with the same message:

    The connection was reset
The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.
The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
    moments.
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer’s network
    connection.
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

None of this message makes any sense as everything was working perfectly until you hit the Atlantic – same for Peggy in England, too. None of the above message is relevant as my server and network are working perfectly on everything else. And, it all worked perfectly until you reached the Atlantic…………..so I just can’ figure this

I also changed something on my site that said if I wanted a better experience to do this. I tried to find it in settings to put it back to original and I couldn’t find it. It seems since then that she and another were unable to access. I would really like to get this sorted because she is a publisher and editor

Instead of putting wordpress.com OR laylagoessouth into the search bar, they should put the following exactly, including the https:// part at the beginning:

    https://laylagoessouth.wordpress.com/

That will ensure they are using the right address.

If it still doesn’t work after that, there are some hints within the error message which says to to check the computer’s network connection and to make sure a firewall or proxy is not blocking access for some reason. Networks are subject to change and problems can come and go, and sometimes the best way to track them down is to contact the local IT department or your home Internet service provider.

I did check https://laylagoessouth.wordpress.com/ from my location, and I can verify that it’s working for me without any problems. This indicates the problem really may be with the network connection on the other end. Sometimes those types of problems are temporary due to network outages, and sometimes it’s something the ISP must get involved with to help.

Based on the information you have provided so far, combined with the fact that the site is working for others, it really does appear like there is a network problem on their side.

The best way to help your followers from here would be to assure them your site is working (I have verified it’s working from my location) and let them know they should contact their Internet provider and ask them for help trying to figure out why they are unable to view the http://laylagoessouth.wordpress.com/ address (tell them the exact address). Also, if your followers have access to a smart phone, they might consider trying to reach your site using a network other than the one they are using for their computer as a test.

I’m not sure what you could have changed, but it doesn’t sound to me like that setting is related. Try having your followers test from a different network as a first troubleshooting step if that’s possible for them.

Thank you I will pass on your instructions

Let me know what you find out!

We were having issues with Internet service as we are travelling so I am able to get back to you as of now. The reader logged in to a different network as you suggested in another town and there was no issue so for some reason it’s in their area? It seems strange for that to happen. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you for your help

It is strange! And I think it’s rare but it does happen. One thing that is a long shot but might help in a case like that is for them to re-boot their modem (I’ve heard of this working for some people in the past, but I don’t think it will always work). Past that, what they should do is contact their internet service provider, letting them know they are trying to access a site that other people have verified is working properly but that they cannot see for some reason, and then asking if they would be willing to help them find out why they cannot access the site. Most often, a case like that (an area outage) is caused by a problem in the network routing and there’s nothing we can do about it from our side but the ISP may be able to help or sometimes it resolves on its own.

I am having problems with people seeing my photos that I posted and the same issue of not being able to access the latest post. Would you please check for me to see if you are able to access North Carolina and if u see the photos. I noticed that some upgrades have been made.

    Thank you so much

I checked https://laylagoessouth.wordpress.com/ and I see “North Carolina” as the first post. I checked https://laylagoessouth.wordpress.com/2015/11/17/north-carolina/ and I can see a long post with at least 34 images throughout. Everything looks good to me!
