Follower settings missing

  Hi,
  Recently the follow button that usually shows up in the right bottom corner of the screen disappeared on my blog, yet I see it on other blogs. The WordPress tutorials say that this setting can be changed by simply going to Settings and then Reader in the dashboard and checking/unchecking the box; however, my dashboard is missing this setting. I was wondering if there was any way to add back the follow button and ‘view site in reader’ option. Thanks for your help.
