Follower to Website
-
I have received an email from (email visible only to moderators and staff) advising me I have a new follower to my website. When I click on View Profile I am taken to Gravatar and asked to Approve access by Gravatar to my personal information which I don’t want to do. In the meantime I have this unknown follower who may be a spammer. How can I confirm who this person or make contact with them?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
Gravatar.com and WordPress.com belong to the same company, and your WordPress.com username and your Gravatar profile are exactly the same thing. There is no risk to your personal info by authorising Gravatar, and you’re only being asked to approve access because you’ve probably never tried logging in via Gravatar.com before.
How can I confirm who this person or make contact with them?
There is no way to confirm who they are unless they choose to include that info in their personal profile, or to link their username to a site that contains that information.
If you have a site on WordPress.com that is set to public, anyone on the internet can follow it. They don’t even need to have a WordPress.com/Gravatar account, as people can also follow your site by it’s RSS feed without you even knowing it. Many of those are going to be spammers, but they cannot harm your account or your site or access your private information in any way unless you choose to reach out to them and give them your information.
If someone follows your site who don’t have their username linked to their own site, just ignore it. They might be a legitimate new reader, and it might not, but there’s no reason why you have to worry about which one it is.
