  The invitations I sent are asking my invitees to join as a contributor. I am simply wanting them to have access to the blogs and to be notified when a new one is posted. Is there a way to utilize the invitation process the website offers without forcing people to sign up or ‘contribute’, or do I have to send my own invitations with a link to my blogs? I specifically selected ‘Followers’ with each invitation.

  I specifically selected ‘Followers’ with each invitation.

  The invitations should have been for followers, then. You can see them here:
  https://wordpress.com/people/invites/

  If they’re saying contributor somewhere, can you send more information on that? Is that in the email? Or are they becoming contributors after accepting the invitation? Send more details and we’ll help you sort this out.

  Hello, Supernovia.

  Got clarity on that. Must have been on the “Contributor” option when I first sent that specific one. Not sure how that happened, but thank you for your response. I believe I will be purchasing a plan soon, as it seems that will be the resolution to some other concerns I’m having, but that’s a side note. I would like clarification on the other question I asked. Do people have to sign up in order to be followers? Is there an option for then to simply click on the link to the blog upon notification of a new one being posted? Thanks again for your prompt response.

  If you are wanting people to simply follow your site and receive updates whenever you post, they can definitely do that without signing up for an account. They can either do it through the follow button at the bottom right or through a follow widget that you can add:
