Followers from Other Social Media Sites

I’ve connected to Facebook and it counts all of my friends as followers to my blog. My connection to LinkedIn, though, doesn’t count my connections as followers and I think it should. Is there something wrong with the way I have done it, or does WordPress not count your friends/connections/followers from sites other than Facebook?

I believe they only count Facebook and Twitter followers.

I heartily agree with you LinkedIn connections should be counted in the WP.com blog Follower stats if Facebook friends and Twitter followers are included. What’s the difference, I wonder?

Now that Google Authenticator is part of the WP.com experience, I am hopeful for a Google+ connectoid verified commenter login and “social media” share as well.

Thank you for answering my question. I thought that might be the case, but I think WordPress should make our LinkedIn connections followers, too, just like our Facebook friends.

There already is a G+ social share button.

Right! Sorry! I meant authenticated login via — like Facebook and Twitter.

I bet Google is already asking Matt about that, but since that would probably equate to a Blogspot ID, it’s doubtful they’ll allow that here.

I totally concur — that’s why I was so shocked, but thrilled! — to see Google Authenticator as a 2-step option here to safeguard our accounts. Something big changed, and it’s a good break.

I know there’s been a wide divide between Quantcast and Analytics and all that comes with proprietary stats keeping — but now that Google gives me my WP.com login credentials, I can only hope that adding G+ authentication for comments will be a smaller, but bigger, thing coming sooner rather than later. SMILE!
