Followers issue

I have the same issue as authorgkadams (just in case I wasn’t clear before). When I count the WordPress and email subscribers I come up with 35 followers. But the widget on our home page says “Join 33 other followers.”

Sigh, it in fact was too good to be true. The perfect numbers held over the wknd and now fall short by 1 again – yes, not accounting for a WP blogger who subscribed by email.

Short but sweet! It’s happening again. I gain new followers and lose the old. The numbers aren’t changing again either. Sigh.

Just out of curiosity, were they already following you via the WP reader?

I’m not understanding, RJ. They (WP bloggers) tap to follow either off the Reader or by email, as you know. When a blogger does the latter, (s)he would show up on my Stats list by name but not affect the numerical count.
Update:
1) Today my count is perfect. (Unbelievable.) Numbers match names.I just noticed that I received follow notification by email on the 8 most recent subscribers who show on my Stats list. Either all 8 subscribed to read me off the Reader or for the first time in months I am now also getting notification of subscribers who chose to follow via email (an issue that apparently resolved with the follow count).
In case you’d like to confirm that the people I haven’t been getting notice of are followers who want to read me by email (as it seems tied to the Count issue for me):

Update for RJ: My numbers are still holding and apparently
Either all 8 subscribed to read me off the Reader.
Meaning, it is not the case that: “for the first time in months I am now also getting notification of subscribers who chose to follow via email.”
(I am still seeing new subscribers by name on my list on whose follow I got no word.)I’m not asking you to work on the email notif. Just reporting that in fact that’s not something for you to have to think about here.

What is relevant is that my numbers are perfect at the moment.

Now we have an actual follower count (WP and email) of 40, but the home page counter says “Join 39 other followers.” So instead of being off by two, it’s off by one.

Rootjosh—-we are actually up to 42 followers now but our counter still is off by two. It says “40 followers” on the main page.

My follower count lags again, at the moment, by 2.
And the last two days, I noticed as I have many times, that the Followers count on the lower left of the Stats (under Totals) would say one thing but then once I tapped that number to pull up the breakdown list, the number in the ( ) would be short by one:
Site Stats >> My Followers >> ( )So though my followers count had held last wk, this discrepancy 2 days ago alerted me that something funny could happen again.

My follower count has been a bit strange too. I guess I just write and write write and I try to add and read other peoples posts but I rarely get any follows back or anyone who reads my articles. It seems to go up and down very strangely, sometimes I have 40 and another I have 6…

My count is widening from the correct mark and the first of my followers are being bumped off the Stats list again.

Update: yesterday the numbers were correct. This morning, the WP followers (not those who subscribe by email or from Tumblr) count is short 2 from the names listed.

Counts that wander and then become accurate again within a 24 hour (or so) window are probably due to caching and would be expected.

Hi rootjosh and everyone!
Well, our counter is stuck at 40. But when I count each WP blog follower and email follower we’re at 43. Which is most excellent for us….but it still isn’t showing up on our main page in the following box! Our newest follower followed us almost 4 days ago..but if I hadn’t checked the actual listing I wouldn’t have known.
I know this must be a tough one to figure out…but I sure appreciate that your team is working on it!
