followers lost?

  I noticed my followers number went from 269 to 39 last week and now it stands at 160. A friend informed me she wasn’t receiving email notifications anymore and when she tried to follow again, it wouldn’t let her enter her email address and gave an error.
  Why has this happened? I am concerned that I have lost over 100 followers and they might not be aware of it.
