Followers not contacted by email

I published a blog but none of my Followers received an email notification. Is this because Followers now need their own WordPress account? This has never happened before. My blog is Private.
WP.com: Yes
Correct account: YesThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
Looking at the logs for your site it used to be public, until you set it to private around two months ago.
Any posts you published while the site was private, will not have been sent out to email subscribers. Content on private sites are only visible to, and emails only sent to, followers who have also been added to a site as a Viewer. A Viewer is a specific user role, different from being a subscriber/follower, and to be a viewer on a site, you need to have your own WordPress.com username account.

Even if someone were following the site before you set it to private, they’ll stop receiving notifications the moment the site is private, as they can’t access the content any more at that point.
I see you’ve now set the site back to public, so the next time you publish a post, emails will go out to your existing subscribers again. But there’s no way to trigger notifications after the fact for the post you published while the site was private.
