Followers not getting email when I publish new posts

  • Unknown's avatar

Don’t know why when I publish new post, both my WordPress.com follower and non-Wordpress.com email followers have stopped receiving emails to notify them.

It has been working well in the past. I am not aware of making any changes.

    Please help.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi Evelyn,

Is this issue specific to some or all of your followers? Once subscribed/followed, people can choose not to receive email updates, or they can also change the frequency of notifications from immediate to daily/weekly.

Can you ask some of them to check their email delivery settings from this page? They will have to click that small edit button next to your blog. For email-only subscribers, use this link.

Once that’s clear, please check and rule out the possibility of emails going into spam/junk folder. Also, I assume the published posts in question were public, so we’re clear on that front as well.

If all of the above is fine, we can ask staff to look into this.

    Hi ehtis,

I have always been posting my posts as password protected, not private. But now that you are checking if my posts are public, I realized that around a month ago I have changed my site visibility

from: Discourage search engines from indexing this site
to: I would like my site to be private, visible only to myself and users I choose

I have now changed it back.

I have asked one WordPress.com follower (name begins with EDDI) to check email delivery setting. It was turned off, although he is sure he hasn’t done that. Anyway, he has changed it back to send new posts by email “instantly” again.

Also I have checked with 2 email followers, they both are still correctly set to follow with “immediate” delivery.

I have sent out a new post and it works for both WordPress.com followers and email followers. THANK YOU !!

Just one more question. I have republished the old posts (the ones when the email notification was not working) in the hope that it will redistribute to my email followers, but no email was distributed. Is it that it only works for truly new posts? Is there anyway to work around it?

    Thanks again for your help.

  • Yay! Glad it worked. :) Site and post visibility indeed affects email notifications.

Hmm, did you actually copy the previous post, fired up the editor, paste the contents and published it as a brand-new post? It should work like this.

If it doesn’t, try making changes to post title and content, then publish again as public.

I changed the post status to “draft”, rescheduled the published date to a future time, then published again. That won’t work.

I will try posting again the way you suggested tomorrow (as it’s late at night here). I think your suggested work-around should work.

    You’re a great help!! Thanks.

I have made use of “Copy A Post” in Writing Helper to copy the old post to a new post, then publish. By doing so, it works!! Email notifications were distributed.

    Hooray! Thanks ehtis.

  • Awesome! Happy blogging. :)
