Followers unable to leave comments. What can be done?

  • Unknown's avatar

Some of my blog’s followers have tried to comment on a post they receive in their email and get this message, “It looks like nothing was found at this location. Perhaps it was there but now it’s gone. Maybe try one of the links below or a search?” This happens regardless of the search engine being used. How can this be corrected?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I don’t see that message which is what commonly appears before you publish a post and not a page. Know that it will take weeks for search engines to index your content so that message will appears in Google page results. However, the more frequently you publish the further it will be driven down the search results page.

What attracts search engines is unique content the cannot in posts that cannot be found anywhere else on the internet. Start now publishing original content posts frequently two or even three times weekly. For more information read > http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2010/01/21/omg-i-cant-find-my-blog-on-google/

The process we use for verifying free hosted WordPress.com blogs with search engines is found here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/webmaster-tools/

Note: Even if you do not verify the blog the content will be indexed by search engines so don’t feel panicky about this please.

WordPress.com provides the search engines with site maps. We bloggers do nothing. http://en.support.wordpress.com/sitemaps/

Lastly note that we cannot assist with search engine issues. They are between the blogger and the search engine. http://en.support.wordpress.com/search-engines/

Thank you for responding timethief. Your comment came through just fine, but I still don’t know what’s needed to resolve followers’ issue when they get the message:

“It looks like nothing was found at this location. Perhaps it was there but now it’s gone. Maybe try one of the links below or a search?”

I’ve tested it (using the email a follower sent) and it goes to my blog, but the message above appears.

    Thoughts? Anybody?

    Hello adt503,

The message you are seeing is your 404 page. This is the page we display when content cannot be found at the link provided. Is it possible that you deleted the post linked to in the email?

If possible please post the link from the email that resulted in the error and we’ll look into it further.

    Thanks.

    Hello There,

Thanks for the link. I am now able to give you more details about what happened. After the subscription email went out the unique URL of your post got changed. This resulted in the 404, page not found, error your subscribers are seeing.

The link you provided me (http://aliciaterry.com/2013/09/26/whats-gods-roi/) has a post date of “9/26” in the URL. The correct URL (http://aliciaterry.com/2013/09/25/whats-gods-roi/) has a post date of “9/25”.

The link to this post was changed sometime after the subscription email went out. If you change the Publish date from the “Publish” section of the dashboard to September 26th 2013 the link in the email will work again.

Hope this helps and let us know if you need anything else :)
