Followers via email

    Hey WordPress!

This is a somewhat silly question, but on the widget that allows people to follow my blog via email, it shows a follower count. Mine says 364 others follow my blog. I’m confused as to how 364 people follow my blog via email when I’ve not received notifications about it and my blog hasn’t even been published an entire week. I guess I’m just trying to learn more about the widget!

    Thank you for your time!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there. First, you only get notified if someone with a WordPress.com account follows your blog. Non-WordPress users who follow you via email don’t generate a notification. Both email and regular followers are displayed in that follower count.

Additionally, the follower count also shows your Twitter, Facebook and Tumblr followers if you have those services connected via Publicize.

    Hello Hales,

First of all, congrats! :) 394 new followers in one week is no mean feat!

As for the notifications, did you get an email notification a few minutes back? I just tried following your blog (and I did notice that your follower count in the widget increased). If you did not, you may want to check the spam folder of your email inbox, or the discussion settings of your blog. For more information, please visit our email notification support article.

    Hope this helps. :)

    – Hari.
