Followers…I am confused

  Hi…I have been blogging for over a year, have around 140 posts, my blog shows up on the front page on Google when intuitive search terms are used, I have a number of email subscribers (16…not a lot, but not zero) and yet…I have no wordpress.COM followers other than myself. I own my domain and use wordpress to run my site…but it is not a wordpress.com site. What am I missing? Is it not possible for people to follow my blog since it isn’t wordpress.com…or do I have to accept the cold, hard facts here.
