Followers/Stats Transfer

  • Unknown's avatar

You guys recently transferred my followers from my wordpress.com to my wordpress.org site. I just received an email stating that I had a new follower, but it wasn’t showing up on my site. It turns out that the new followers are added to my wordpress.com site. So now I have 1 follower at my .com site and the ones you transferred are still at the .org. It doesn’t make any sense. Also, from everything that I’ve read, stats transfer as well, but mine didn’t at all. Any help would be great! Thanks!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

I just tried following your blog, and I was able to correctly follow your WordPress.org blog. I want to assure you that there isn’t any problem with following your .org blog.

However, as long as your WordPress.com blog is still public, WordPress.com users can find your old blog posts in the Reader and follow your .com blog from there. One way to avoid this is to set your .com blog to private. You can do that under Settings > Reading in your WordPress.com blog’s dashboard. We have more information about those settings here: Privacy Settings

Also, from everything that I’ve read, stats transfer as well, but mine didn’t at all.

Stats aren’t automatically transferred, but I’m happy to take care of that for you. You should see all of your stats on your .org site now.

Please let me know if I can provide any further help. :)

Thank you so much. They’re there. And I set my .com blog to private. Is there any point in even keeping that blog or can it just be deleted?

    Hi there,

At this point, there are only a couple reasons to keep the blog instead of deleting it:

    1. If you delete a blog on WordPress.com, it’s permanent and the free *.wordpress.com address can’t ever be used again (by you or anyone else). If you think you might want to use that blog/address in the future, you should keep it.

    2. You still have some time left on your domain mapping upgrade for the WordPress.com blog. If anyone tries to visit your blog at the free *.wordpress.com address while that upgrade still active, they will be redirected to your domain and your new self-hosted WordPress blog.

But otherwise, there’s no advantage to keeping the WordPress.com blog around — all of your content is now over at your self-hosted WordPress blog. If you want, you can delete the WordPress.com blog. We have more information about that here: Delete Site

Please let me know if I can help with that. :)
