Following a blog — does it notify of updated page and new pages, or just posts?
-
Hi all,
I’m helping to update a FAQ for a volunteer effort in NH supporting nursing homes and long term care facilities during the COVID-19 outbreak. When I started the site, I needed to make it searchable and WordPress.com folks helpfully talked me through options. I settled on pages, which show up as categories for my users. Now folks want to know if there is a way to alert people automatically when I update a page or add a page. I had suggested several weeks ago that people ‘follow’ the site, but am concerned that might only work for posts, and not new or updated pages.
Any ideas? How can my users find out automatically when I’ve updated something?
Site, for your reference: https://covidnursinghomefaq.wordpress.com/
Thanks,

Also — if another site followed my site via an RSS feed on their site, would updated Pages show up on their feed? They are using Wild Apricot, if that helps at all.

Hi there,
Subscribers are only notified of new posts published on a site. New pages, as well as updates to existing posts and pages, do not trigger any notification to site followers.
Pages exist outside of your site’s RSS feed, so neither updates to existing pages nor new pages can be followed via another feed reader either.
The Page content type on WordPress is intended for static content that does not change regularly, and the only option to notify people of changes to a page is the Email Post Changes feature in the dashboard, but that only sends notifications to page admins you specify, not to followers of a site who don’t have access to the dashboard.
