The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi @baertigerbackpacker!

Your current theme, Traveler, only supports widgets in the footer – it doesn’t have anything higher up that you could put the button into.

I did take a look to see if we could try to movie it with a bit of Custom CSS, but in this case that won’t work, due to the way the footer is built.

You might want to consider a different theme with a sidebar so you could place a widget up higher, alongside your content:

Okey I think the Tortuga Theme is good for that. Can you have a look at this?
Can I put the follow button in that theme to the top of the site or to the top of the right site ?

    Or the dynamicnews theme ?
Can I use follow button on the top of the site?

Can I use the search button in the Tortuga theme on the top of the site beside the social media widgets ?

On Tortuga, you would be able to put a widget (like your Follow button) on the right hand side. It could go up as high as the “Keep In Touch” widget on the demo site.

Like Tortuga, you could go as high as the top of the sidebar – so you’d be able to put up where the “Popular Posts” are on the demo site.

Dynamic News has a search bar at the top, next to the social icons in the header – Tortuga does not have this option. You could place a search bar in your sidebar, near the top though.

Don’t be sorry! This is a very good question to ask!

CSS is theme-specific. When you switch themes, the custom CSS gets erased, but you can restore it using the CSS Revisions link under My Site > Customize > CSS.

Some things will be similar enough from one theme to the next that they’ll still be useful. Most things, however, won’t work on a new theme (they won’t do anything) or they’ll have unexpected results when they interact with the new layout. If you switch themes, plan on needing some new CSS to go with it :)
