  The last two or three WP blogs I have clicked “follow” in the bar at the top of the page (NOT the follow via email button) have started updating me via email alerts instead of just showing up in my followed blogs feed (where it also appears).

  How do I prevent email updates without unsubscribing, and how do I prevent this from happening in the future?
