Hi there!
three questions —
1) how do I create a sidebar ‘widget’ to invite guests to click to follow my blog?
2) what is the difference between views and visitors? I thought it was just how many views each visitor made – but it’s not adding up with where (what countries) the views are coming from
3) it appears that the blog will auto set a feature image if I don’t set it manually – however can I somehow adjust the feature image – without adding one of my own? Thanks!

Hello Jihan,
1) how do I create a sidebar ‘widget’ to invite guests to click to follow my blog?
You can use the follow blog widget on your sidebar or embed this follow button.
2) what is the difference between views and visitors? I thought it was just how many views each visitor made – but it’s not adding up with where (what countries) the views are coming from
Consider that i am visiting your site. That is counted as one visitor. Now if i refresh the page multiple times or visit your page multiple times that is counted as multiple views from me. You can read more about it here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/stats/#viewsvisitors
3) it appears that the blog will auto set a feature image if I don’t set it manually – however can I somehow adjust the feature image – without adding one of my own?
Can you please explain this? What are your trying to do here? If you are trying to set your own feature image, then:
1. Go to My Site(s) → Customize(Beside the Themes option). This will open the site Customizer.
2. On the sidebar of the Customizer. Click Header Image tab and then click on the Add new Image button to add your own image.
3. Click Save & Publish.Thanks! 🙂

Also – in regard to #2 — while your explanation makes sense, it does not seem to be the case with my blog report. It doesn’t seem that the reporting is working properly. For example: I posted something about ten minutes ago and it says I have 1 visitor and 8 views, however this is contradicted by the fact that I have 3 likes from 3 separate visitors; and when you track the views, the report says 3 are from the US, 2 are from Australia, 2 from Canada, and 1 from the European Union. Obviously, these views can’t all be from just 1 visitor.
Please advise. -
a) not post a feature image — how do I not include a header?
I suppose you will need CSS to hide the header. Editing CSS is a part of the paid WordPress.COM Premium and Business plans. So let me know if you are on any one of these plans. I can give your the CSS code to hide the header.
Read more about editing CSS here:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/editing-css/
b) edit the one auto assigned when I don’t feature my own
You will need to download the image and then edit it using some editing tools and upload it. But I am not sure if it is allowed. Since, the image might be copyrighted. So best thing would be to use images that are suggested or else you can download images from https://unsplash.com/, edit it and upload it as an header.
All the images at https://unsplash.com/ are free to download and edit without any restrictions.

Sometimes it takes a while for the stats to be updated. So it might happen that the behavior of your site and the actual stats may differ sometime. But it will update eventually so give it some time.
