font change issues in visual editor.

while editing in the visual editor, and previewing my post, i’ve noticed certain text changes to a different font and size. though, while in the visual editor, nothing looks wrong.

when i switch to the text editor, i’m able to delete all the extra html tags (which are changing my font to inherit, size 12) and that fixes the issue.

i’ve found all of these issues (i think) before publishing, so i don’t think viewing my blog will help address the issue. i did take a screenshot of the issue in the text editor, if that would help at all.

i’m using the chateau theme. the issue happened before, and now after, i purchased the custom design package and changed my font choices.

i think someone else posted a similar issue (https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/how-do-i-resolve-aberrant-display-of-entered-text?replies=2#post-1306297), but i can’t see the topic; it says it’s hidden. any thoughts on why this is happening, or what i might be doing wrong, would be appreciated.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

This thread will be moved to the CSS Forum for you. Please do not create a duplicate thread.

This thread will not be moved to the CSS Forum for you because it’s not a CSS issue: CSS doesn’t create extra html tags in the text editor.

Asking before removing the wrong tags would have been better, because then we would have been able to examine the sourcecode of your page. Maybe the screenshot will help. You can upload it to your blog via Media > Add New, click Edit, copy the URL from the File URL field of the Save module, paste it here.

thank you. here is the file url: http://verbsandvignettes.files.wordpress.com/2013/06/screen-shot-2013-06-14-at-7-57-30-pm.jpg. if this doesn’t work, i can try to duplicate the issue and post it.

You probably copypasted the content from another source into the Visual editor, or used some 3rd party application to create it.
Never paste into the Visual editor: when you need to paste, paste into the Text editor.

And please, please, go to Settings->Writing and select “WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML” which prevents this error from happening in future.

thank you!! i have checked that option now.

i’m just curious for the future… whenever i paste in text, i use “paste from word,” or usually “paste from text.” could that still be an issue in the visual editor?

Not if you have that box checked.

awesome. thank you all for your help!

Sorry, the auto-correct option doesn’t work that way. It will correct invalidly nested XHTML only. For instance, if you add an opening div tag and forget to add the corresponding closing div tag, the editor will supply that missing tag when you click Update or when you toggle between Text and Visual. It cannot erase correct code that simply shouldn’t be there and has been transferred via copypasting from other sources.

so… it seems the “paste as plain text” option is still creating odd font tags. the safest bet would be pasting in the text editor…? i just want to know if i’m using the paste option incorrectly.

The tools “paste from word” and “paste as plain text” don’t have any options, so there’s no room for correct or incorrect use. It’s just that both of them remove some of the junk but not all of it. I was clear from the start: “when you need to paste, paste into the Text editor”. That’s the only way that guarantees you paste the text and nothing but the text.
