font changing when you enter the site

  • Unknown's avatar

    Why are the fonts still on default mode when you enter my site and after a few seconds this changes to the chosen font?
    This really doesn’t look very professhional and keeps happening. How can you fix my chosen font to the only one you will see when entering and on the site?
    Please help asap, as this is already happening the whole week…

    I am having this problem as well. I recently changed to the Twenty-Ten theme and upgraded to allow customizing. When I first go to my site, sometimes it’s okay and sometimes it shows the default font. The headline font won’t hold, despite attempting to change it many times. I blog at grandmakissedasailor.com

    Hi Timethief, thanx for your help, I see you added the tag now, and indeed this related to the previous font problem. But I am afraid this one is special for the Twenty-Ten theme as Jwright303 is experiencing this problem as well, and you are not on your theme…The font does change to the right one now, so that problem is fixed, but not totallly for my site… Now the problem is that when entering my site it still shows default mode settings for a second and then it changes to my chosen font settings. The site keeps doing this everytime you switch pages and blogsposts…especially when I look at the site on my Adroid mobile phone it keeps starting each page or post in default font and taking more than 2-3 second to switch to chosen font mode…can you please check what I can do to fix this asap?

    Hi there,

    Velda (supernovia) addressed this in the other forum post timethief linked to earlier: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/any-idea-why-fonts-are-not-loading-correctly-from-wordpress?replies=17#post-2448121

    When we recently added free Google fonts to all sites across WordPress.com, we changed the way web fonts are loaded. On slower connections, we used to show a blank page before the content loaded – now, we display the content in the theme’s default font first, so no one sees a blank page. We realize this means that there may be a flash of a different font before the page finishes loading, but we think overall this is better for folks on slower connections (including mobile devices) than seeing a blank screen.

    If you’d rather go back to the way it worked before, so the text is hidden until your font is fully loaded, you can add this custom CSS to the CSS section in your site’s customizer:

    .wf-loading body {
    visibility: hidden;
    }

    Please let me know how that goes.

    Hi Rachelmcr,

    I did what u recommended and it seemed to work, especially on the mobiel device!
    The only thing is when I check the site now on my laptop, only in the beginning it flitches again to the standard font for a few seconds and then everything stays in the chosen fonts when changing pages.
    How can I get it totally without default font also on my laptop?
    Hope to hear from you soon.
    Kind regards Naomi

    Hi Naomi,

    I didn’t see any different fonts appear when I checked your site on my computer; I only saw the custom fonts. You may need to refresh your browser or clear your browser’s cache to see that CSS change you made to your site.

    If that doesn’t make a difference for you, please let me know and I can try to investigate further.

    I cleared all browser history now but it seems to be even worse…It shows the standard font now even longer when entering the site, then goes blank and then to the custom font…Hope you can find another solution…on mobile it is working fine, and on my partners connection through Internet explorer as well…it seems to be a problem with my Google chrome but also my Firefox, especially when they start up slow….

    Hi Naomi,

    If you’re on a slow internet connection, it’s possible that your site is loading with its default fonts before your custom CSS is loaded with that CSS rule you added. That is slowest the first time you load your site after clearing your browser’s cache — after that everything on your site will load faster, including your custom CSS and fonts.
