Font colors not changing
-
Hello, I have had the Franklin running on our website since early last year, but I am having a problem with changing font colors. I am trying to add a sentence to our home page in the color red. I have it set to red and in the editor that text is red. However, when I click to Preview the page the font color is still black. Even after publishing the change of font colors it still shows as black text. This has happened several times over the past year, but I have not had the time to ask about how to fix it until now. If it helps, we have been using this theme since the website was first set up. In the very beginning I was able to change font colors but not now. I do not have the premium access, or whatever it’s called, so there has not been any CSS edits or edits from FTP.
The site in question is: https://fikebaseball.com/
The text that I have assigned in the editor as being the color red is : ‘7/1/18 7:12AM Jr Wood Bat Classic is under rain delay at this time. Any updates will be posted on the schedule page as soon as they are available.’ However, it still shows as black when viewing the actual page. Please help. The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

To add to this I just tried to make a completely new page on our site, and the font colors do not change. It has to be something wrong with the theme?

Hi –
You’ll need to use CSS in order to change the font color as you have described. The plan would need to be upgraded to the premium level.
More details here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/editing-css/
Alternatively, you could use italice or bold, or quoted text as a free alternative to make that sentence stand out more.

Sorry but that is not true.
When the site was first set up in the Fall of 2017 you could change colors of fonts in the basic editor without changing/editing/adding to CSS. I had blue, red, black, etc. text all over the place. It worked for a while, but for some reason it does not work anymore on any previously made page or any new pages/posts. Occasionally it will show the color change in Preview but stays black when publishing. The plan we are on is the same as when we signed up.

Sorry to double post, but I searched around my site to see if any of the pages still had the colored fonts on it. Here’s one page that actually has blue font in certain areas.
This page was edited earlier this year and the blue font stayed the same as it was last year. Other pages however do not allow me to change font colors.

Hmm. It seems that I misunderstood your post.
In this link:

That blue text are hyperlinks.
In your original post, I thought you were talking about changing the color of a sentence that was plain text. Is it a link that you are working on?
-
It’s when I try to change the font color of any text whether it be in a link or just plain text. When I first set up the site (same theme from the beginning) I had red, blue, and orange text throughout the pages/posts/and links with no issues. As time went on and I added to those pages the ability to change font colors stopped working.
Out of curiosity I just went to the page I linked before and changed the blue hyperlinks to Red in the editor. Now the hyperlinks are black and will not change to another color no matter how many times that I try. It says page is saving but doesn’t change when viewing.
I would try a different theme, but I spent so much time setting up the Franklin theme I really do not want to start over.

In the page and post editor, you can highlight text or links and change the color as explained here.
https://en.support.wordpress.com/visual-editor/#text-color
Is that what you were looking for?
-
Yes I am aware of how the editor is supposed to work and that’s how I did it before. What I’m saying is that is not working anymore. I’ve been using that type of editor (or ones similar for years), and I am somewhat proficient in html and css.
I guess I will stick with black fonts until we can upgrade or have the time to change the theme. I’m pretty sure that something is messed up on the back end of the site. This site is for my son’s baseball team and I volunteer to run it. We might just switch to another host that would actually take this over and fix it. My old hosting service would have this fixed in a day or two.

Hi there,
Can you please give me a link to a post where you’ve changed the color but where it’s not sticking so I can take a look? I use Franklin myself on my personal site, and did some testing, and changing the color for a section of text in a post works fine for me, so I don’t think this is the theme. I tested with both the My Site and WP-Admin editors.
On your https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/font-colors-not-changing/ page I’m able to change the linked text’s color as well.
What browser are you using? Can you please check if the colors are applied correctly if you clear your browser cache and cookies, or if you try editing the post in a different browser?

On the page I linked above earlier, https://fikebaseball.com/home/woodbat-tournament/woodbat-registration/ the links to Entry Forms were blue from a long time ago when I first made that page. Yesterday I tried to change the same links to red and now they stay black no matter what I do. If you view the HTML from the editor it does show hex color codes around the links.
Also, on my home page I just tried changing the colors of the links to Blog, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to blue but they are all still black: https://fikebaseball.com/
One of the first things that I did when I noticed this issue was to try clearing cookies and cache in Chrome which didn’t change anything. I’ve also tried using a different browser (Microsoft Edge) with the same results.

Hi, on the two entry form links at the top of that page, there is the link element wrapped in a strong (bold) element, with the span that has the color you set wrapping that.
The Franklin theme is a bit unusual in that in the original CSS, there is a color set for the strong element and since that is a child element of the span with your color setting, it is overriding the color you had set. There is also a color set in the original CSS for text links which also takes precedence.
Add the following custom CSS, which will allow you to set the colors within the editor and have them display correctly.
strong, .entry-content a { color: inherit !important; }Let me know if you see other instances.

Thank you so much thesacredpath! That is exactly what I needed to do to fix this issue! I had a feeling that it was something to do with that particular theme. Thanks again!
