  If I download a web font online will I be able to use it with a customization upgrade? If so, how would I go about doing that?

  That’s not possible, the fonts you can use can be trialled from the Appearance > Customize > Fonts menu and you can read a bit more about custom fonts here.

  So you are saying that the only fonts available for use on all of WordPress are the ones in the customization menu?

  Each theme has a default font (or fonts) if you want to choose your own you are limited to the ones available through the custom design upgrade. You can’t upload your own fonts or use @font-face rules with custom CSS.
