Font Help with a Premium Account/Theme
-
hello, I realize this may be common knowledge, but I am so green at this I might as well be fluorescent.
so I am trying to setup the blog site for my wife to start a cooking blog, and I have a good handle on most of it, but the fonts are where I am struggling. I know how to get to the typography and change the font type and size, but the font types listed are all subtle variations of each other, and I am looking to see how I can get something different. I know plugins are not allowed for my subscription cost, and at the moment I cannot afford to bump it up to the next level.
am I stuck with only what is defaulted into the Theme? I like the Theme, I am just looking for more options for Font types.
appreciate any feedback you guys can provide

Hi there, it depends on your plan. If your site is on the Premium plan, you can change fonts in Styles>Typography. Select which text you want to change (text, links, headings, etc.) and you’ll then see a drop down menu with the available fonts.

Post back here if you have other questions about this.

Hi there!
but I am so green at this I might as well be fluorescent.
First of all, that was hilarious! But you may be greener than you think! You already know that plugins require the WordPress.com Business plan (which lets you upload your own font, if you’d like), but you’re not limited to the theme font in your current WordPress.com Premium plan.
As @2020testjj brilliantly noted, using the Styles feature, you can choose custom fonts for your site.
Once you’re in the Site Editor from Appearance → Editor, click Styles → Typography → choose the type of font you’d like to update (For example, Text is for all regular text while Headings is for the headings like post titles and other headings inside posts).
You’ll then see the Font drop-down menu to choose a custom font, as shown below:

Your base font is currently DM Sans. Feel free to give it a try and update the font to your liking (or to your wife’s liking, it’s her cooking blog, isn’t it?)!
Let me know if I can help you with anything else.

that does help, I was just kind of hoping there was a way to add other font styles to the theme, that aren’t in the already available list of Fonts. like i said, there is quite a few to choose from, but they all look similar (to an extent) and I was hoping for additional options/choices that may be available, without a plan upgrade or a plugin.
I appreciate your guys replies and help – I’m getting pretty good at the setup, but the fonts were a mystery for adding custom ones – although I “think” i already knew the answer, but wanted to check my options.

I totally get where you’re coming from!
But as 2020testjj correctly mentioned previously. On the Free and lower-tier plans, the available fonts are the ones built into the theme and the customizer tools — so while you can’t upload your own or use libraries like Google Fonts just yet, it still gives you a base setup to work with.
If you ever decide to explore plugins or bring in full custom fonts, that option does open up with the Business plan and above.I know that’s probably not the answer you were hoping for, but it’s good to double-check.

it isn’t – BUT that is perfectly fine, I just mainly wanted to make sure I was not overlook anything, or missing any options i had missed.
I appreciate you all for the feedback. all the very best to you all.
