  I am a beginner, people told me to use dash board to edit a page but when I clicked on a particular page to edit, the left hand side menu of the dash board is no longer there.

  Is it a page editor that I am using?
  When do I use dash board to edit then?

  To edit a page you will want to go to My Site>Site>Pages, click on any page you want to work on, and update it.
