font size, and color are all gone when I copy and paste writing

I use to be able to copy and paste from my Microsoft Outlook 2003 or my Comcast Xfinity e-mail into wordpress…and all my colors and fonts, including the size of print would show up… Have I clicked on something in WordPress to turn this off ??
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there!
There were some recent changes to the Visual Editor and Image Editor. You can read more about those changes here:
One change in particular was the removal of the Paste from Word option explained here:
This affects how text pasted from other programs behaves in the post editor. However, I have tried copying and pasting from different programs, and the font-sizing and colors seem to be maintained. Can you make sure the “Paste as Text” icon shown here is toggled off?

I have clicked on this “T” icon you have referenced, and still don’t see how to turn it on and off… Sorry I am so computer illiterate… :-(

Hi there,
Not a problem! In short, the changes may result in your previous method of pasting not working as it did before. However, let’s give it a try just to be sure.
I created a brief screencast of the function to demonstrate how it works:
In the example, you’ll see that I have a Pages document set with text of different sizes and the last line bolded. The first time I paste into the WordPress.com editor, I have Paste as Text turned off (when you click the button to turn it on, you’ll receive a warning message). Therefore, you’ll see that the bolding was maintained. However, the sizing was not.
In the second paste effort, I turned Paste as Text on. You can distinguish this because you’ll see that the button is shadowed as if it is pressed down. In the second example, the pasting strips all formatting (including the bolding and font sizing).
It’s entirely likely that the changes you’re making in the word processing application are being stripped out regardless of whether the button is toggled (like my font sizing). This was actually put in place to help prevent erroneous tags from sneaking into your blog post. Microsoft Word and other word processors often carry along some messy formatting when you’re copying and pasting that can alter how your blog posts look and feel. As a result, we strip out many of the tags so they look correct.
Can you check out the screencast above and let me know if that makes sense?

Jeremy, I am going nuts !! Sometimes it copies right…sometimes it changes red lines to black…sometimes it copies into one font… What format were you using that seemed to work ??
I copy out of different documents… if any one of them is flawed, could it make everything come out in black print ?? Pieces of a page will copy… But if I copy the entire page it comes out black and small print

Hey Bruce,
I was using Pages to type the original copy and then copying and pasting from one document. Can you let me know a bit about what programs you’re using to create your blog posts? Are you using Microsoft Word? Since you’re experiencing different results from different documents, it’s likely that these documents are formatted differently.
Going forward, your best bet is to paste the content into the WordPress.com Editor in plain text, meaning that no formatting will be carried over. Then, you can format the text within the Editor. This helps to ensure that no strange characters are left behind from the original formatting. Instructions on pasting in plain text can be found here:
Can you give that a try? That should ensure that all of your pasted text looks identical when it’s pasted into the Editor.
