Font Size Changed in Classic Editor Visual View

Thanks for looking into this, shawna. It is on several different themes, not all are “retired” ones either.
There is another thread talking about this technical problem:

I saw that other thread as well and checked in with Ash. Neither of us are able to reliably replicate the issue you’re reporting. More screenshots would be a great help! You can upload them to your Media Libraries.
-
OK just uploaded 2 files in the Media Library. Both are an edited post using Chrome.
One is the Visual Editor in the classic editor which shows the huge text size and the other is the Text view in the classic editor which shows the text size as being OK.
-
I also uploaded a screenshot of my Visual Tab in the Classic Editor to my Media Library.
-
Thank you both for the screenshots! Can you both give me the version number of the browser you’re using? It looks like Chrome and Firefox are causing you issues @dandelionsalad.
Can either (or both) of you try using your editor from a different computer and let me know if you still see the large font?
-
Firefox is 33.1.1 (the latest version) and Chrome is also updated to 39.0.2171.65.
Sorry I am unable to use another computer from another location.

@musicdoc1 – The font sizes in your screenshot look totally normal. The text in the tags module is usually smaller than the rest of the content in the classic editor.
@dandelionsalad and @helar – thanks for the follow up!
@dandelionsalad – I was able to replicate basically the exact look you had in your browser by zooming. When I reset the zoom, the font in the editor is much smaller. Can you please reset the zoom in your editor by using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + 0 when you’re on the page with the font that’s too large?
@helar – you have a TON of sites! Did you upload screenshots to one of them? Can you please try the zoom method I just mentioned above?

The text in the tags module is usually smaller than the rest of the content in the classic editor.
Perhaps it’s normal, and perhaps it should be larger than the text else or the dash, but it unquestionably suddenly became considerably larger about a week ago.
Should I have demonstrated instead the size of the text in the Visual vs. the Text mode? There was a difference there before, also, but the difference is greater now.

I looked at musicdoc’s screenshot and I see that the text size in the editor is much larger in the visual mode compared to the side modules.
I left links to the Firefox screenshots at the beginning of this thread including a non-zoom (100%) and one that is 150% zoomed. Zooming doesn’t make any difference except all text is larger on the page one is zooming. I also uploaded to my Flickr page the text view of the classic editor showing the text/font size to be OK. Musicdoc mentioned the same thing on his computer.
I found zooming to view the side modules made the text so large in the visual editor of the classic editor that it was unusable. So that is why I changed the default text/font size in Firefox. Unfortunately, that changes all websites’ text/font size, so it’s only a temporary “fix”.
I haven’t changed anything in Chrome as I do not use Chrome. The last screenshots are from Chrome as this problem is also there, and I uploaded those to the media library.
I’m using the landscape view on a PC with a monitor screen resolution: 1920 X 1080.
If I change to the “new, too-blue, Beep, Beep, Boop” editor, there is no problem with text/font size in the visual editor. So this is happening only in the classic editor. However, I do not use the “new, too-blue” editor.

@dandelionsalad – Firefox and Chrome work a little differently. Since your latest screenshots were from Chrome, that’s what I tested with. When in Chrome I was able to replicate your screenshot perfectly by zooming in to 100%. If you’d like to get your editor working in Chrome, please try reseting your zoom as I mentioned above.
Your screenshot of Firefox at 100% looks completely normal to me.
@musicdoc1 – Your screenshot looks exactly as I would expect. Unless it is un-useable now, there is no bug there.
The font in the editor is larger than the font in the modules. That’s by design.

Thanks for your time working on this, Shawna, I do appreciate it.
However, I don’t work in 100% on a large monitor. The text size (on any website) is just too small to read without a magnifying lens.
I have screenshots of Firefox in 100% as posted in the first comment of this thread. The text/font size in the classic editor in visual mode is HUGE. It is not useable. Therefore, I made changes in the Firefox default text/font size to make it more useable for WP editing. Now all the websites I visit have this change.
This change happened 6 days ago while I was working on WP. Literally from one minute to the next minute the text/font size changed to huge. That is why I started this thread.
It is a dramatic change of font size compared to the side modules, not just a little bit larger in the editor like you say is “normal”.
Zooming increases the text/font size equally across the page. It doesn’t matter what zoom size 100%, 133%, or 150% I am using. The text/font size and the side modules proportionally get larger together while zooming.
It’s the difference in the size in the visual mode of the classic editor compared to the side modules that has changed dramatically 6 days ago.
It has to be a bug, because I’ve been blogging here for over 7 years and never had this happen before last week.

@shawnajroberts,
I respect your opinion, your analytic abilities, and your position as a WP staff member. But no, it’s not normal. One week ago, or thereabouts, the text in the visual editor suddenly increased dramatically. The change was very noticeable, and when you typically blog for hours each day you notice such things. At least a 10% enlargement. -

Shawna,
I have been in zoomed-out mode (in Chrome) ever since the issue occurred, using that as a workaround. I did Ctrl+0 as you suggested, and it actually brought me back to the huge font again. I hit Ctrl+0 again from that position, and nothing happened. The only way I can get it to look remotely like I want it is to hit Ctrl, minus sign about 2-3 times from the standard zoom, and that makes everything else much smaller than I’d like it, aside from the editor text. -
Thanks for being persistent about this everyone. I pinged a developer to take a look and see if they noticed something I couldn’t. He was able to dig in and found a core merge that changed the default editor styling from a set font size to 100%, which would obviously cause quite a jump for some users.
The developers are still discussing it, but I’ll let you all know as soon as I hear back from them.
