Font + Widget issues after Domain Purchase

  • Unknown's avatar

    Good morning

I recently bought the suggested domain (geeenawrites.com) and since yesterday, I’ve noticed that the selected font I’ve chosen (Yesterday, Merriweather. Today, Lora and Merriweather) aren’t appearing in the Textbook theme I’m using for my WordPress website.

I’ve tried clearing my browser history, logging out and locking back in, but the issue persists. The fonts only appear in the preview page of the customizer, so I don’t know what the issue could be.

I’ve also noticed that my Goodreads widget isn’t appearing on the sidebar of my theme either.

Please let me know if there’s anything on my end or your end that you can do.

  • Hello –

Thanks for taking the time to reach out. I’m looking at the site and can see the custom fonts are saved under this setting: https://geeenawrites.wordpress.com/wp-admin/customize.php?autofocus%5Bsection%5D=jetpack_fonts

It would be helpful to know exactly where the changes aren’t going through as expected. If you could point me to a specific page or post that would be great. Is it working in some spaces but not all?

This issue is effecting every page and post on the website.

Whenever I enter the customizer, like you demonstrated, the font customizations are there. But when I exit the customizer, the font choices don’t appear on any of the posts or pages.

  • Hi there,

This is what I see set in the customizer currently, and the view of the site (on the right) appears to use the same fonts.

I can also confirm that when I visit the site directly and examine the source code, the Lora font is used for headings, and Merriweather is set as the base font. It it possible that I am seeing something different from what you see?

Or is the issue that you are trying to change your site to two different fonts (something other than Lora and Merriweather?) and that change is not being saved and/or reflected on the site?

    Thanks for the additional info!

    Good morning.

So, I cleared my cache/cookies and browser history again just to make sure it wasn’t a browser issue on Firefox and Chrome. This is how the website appeared to me on both browsers. The font stylization just doesn’t appear.

I double-checked that it wasn’t the browser extensions I was using (Ublog Origin, Privacy Badger, I don’t care about cookies). Adjusting the settings on Privacy Badger, or outright disabling it on WordPress, for the time being, seems to have allowed the font customization settings and widgets to appear.

    Problem solved, I guess?

  • It sounds like the problem might be solved, but I say give this another 24 hours to be sure. Let’s chat then and hopefully you’re seeing the result you expect across browsers.

Checking in again. The issue hasn’t come up again (for me) on Chrome and Firefox since tweaking a few settings on the Privacy Badget extension. Here are a few screencaps.

  • Thanks for the update. Let us know if the issue returns.
