Fontfolio images

I read the details for the Fontfolio theme and it said that the first image would be chosen if you hadn’t chosen to have a ‘featured image’. I also noted that this first image would be the one in the reader even if you had chosen a featured one.
This was fine as I choose my first image with the reader in mind but sometimes it is too tall to look good on the Fontfolio homepage. But when I started using Fontfolio I noticed that the images on the home page had been chosen at random and so I edited a few posts to have a featured image (my previous theme didn’t have this I think). With my latest post (first since I changed) I chose a featured image for the home page as the first one was portrait shaped but then it didn’t show the first image in the reader. So I removed the featured image only to have fontfolio choose the last picture in the post for the home page!
How do I get Fontfolio to show the first image unless I choose a featured one? Thank you anyone who knows.

Hi Some time ago I received a mail from WP about a new header that would show images from previous posts randomly under the header image. This is not working on my blog and I cant remember what its called or how to remove it! Can someone help? http://www.thefeatherbender.com
