fonts changing from word

  • Unknown's avatar

i type up my posts in word and then copy and insert via the word icon in wordpress. sometimes it comes out okay, other times the font is different, other times the font comes up white and other times it doesn’t. how do i get consistent fonts throughout my posts? a bit hard to explain unless you take a look, one in particular is my review on Lowepro Fastback 250. I have gone in and changed the font to white colour as when I have inserted it into word and upload and view it looks all shaded. I have the Coraline Dark theme??

    thanks in advance

I know I can just type straight into the post but I rather prefer the small font that came up automatically when I copied and inserted from word. If I have to go back and type straight into the post then I will and stick with times roman? which brings me to the question, are you able to change fonts from the toolbar in wordpress??

Well, first off copying and pasting from MS Word is a bad idea. MS Word does not speak web and creates horribly corrupt and nasty code that can kill websites. For that reason, wordpress will typically strip out all of the code from Word copy and paste. You have no idea how much time the volunteers here in the forums used to spend helping people fix their blogs after Word destroyed it.

There is a “paste from Word icon on the lower toolbar, but it is not foolproof and sometimes misses stripping some of the junk code out.

My suggestion is to get Windows Live Writer if you are on Windows and write your posts in that. It creates clean, web compliant code and is very “Word” like and you can publish your posts directly from it. No need for any copy and paste.

If you do not want to do that then copy out of word, paste it into a plain text editor such as notepad or TextEdit and then copy that out and paste it into the wordpress editor. Pasting first into the plain text editor will strip out all the code. Then you do all your formatting after you paste the clean code into the wordpress editor.

thanks for that, I did read where you needed to insert into post via the “word” kitchen sink tool bar which I had been doing and it made no difference. I will use Live Writer now.

I have written two posts via the Live Writer method and they are both on Calibri 10 and they both came out different looking fonts. If you check the travel post and the lowepro post and you will see what I mean. Unless it is because I copied and pasted (which I suspect may be the case) into Live Writer, formatted it and then uploaded from Writer.

and I also wanted to say that the volunteers at WordPress are brilliant!!

Hello, I am trying to change fonts from the typekit website. I have chosen my font, and it says to embed wxg4azl into the dashboard but I don’t know where on the dashboard to embed it. Also, how do I get colour into the font? Sorry in advance for my cluelessness but I am not a digital native. Thank you. Belinda

@belindabretherton – we need the URL of the blog in question beginning with http before anyone can provide you with accurate hel;p.

@john – spamming the support forum is poor form and bad Karma.

We need to confirm whether or not you are referring to a free blog being free hosted by wordpress.COM or not. That applies even if the blog visibility is “private”. Why? Because wordpress.COM and wordpress.ORG run on different software. https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/please-read-me-first-before-posting?replies=1

In order to get the correct answer to your question please post an active link starting with http:// for the blog in question.

@glenjen, you are welcome. Windows Live Writer is seriously cool. I wish there was a version for Mac. I use Ecto, but it is not as feature rich as WLW.

The explanations make no sense. I guess this is what you are after and I really don’t understand how I can be accused of spamming the support forum by auxclass by simply asking a question. As a novice user, I find the attitude quite discouraging and am considering seeking a friendlier blog. timethief clarified the issue. Thank you timethief. Cheers Belinda

@belinda: Did you not notice that the “spamming” remark was addressed to someone else (whose message was deleted)?

  • Unknown's avatar

@belindabretherton – read my Post again – you were not accused of spamming – I simply ask for your blog URL – the spammer was @john that posted above you. Please only give me credit for things I actually do – the question about the URL was to help people to help you.

My apologies auxclass, I have never used this site before and did not know what the @XXXXX referred to but I do now.
My pages jump out of order, I don’t know how to change the font colour, I have no idea how to embed that number into the dashboard-there is no “embed here” button and I have to keep this page up forever because I have no idea how I got to here and don’t know how to get back. If anyone can help me I would appreciate it. Thanks Belinda

    @belinda
    1. Here’s how to link your blog to your username. Dashboard -> Users -> Personal Settings -> then scroll down to Account Details. Then scroll down to where it says ‘Website‘ select the URL for your primary wordpress.com blog and then save changes.

Now every time you sign into the forum we can all click on your username and your blog will be linked to it. And every time you leave a comment on a blog your username can be likewise clicked and your blog can be instantly located.

Note that there is a complete record of every post that you make to the forum on your forum profile page. Also note that when you mark a forum threads as “favorites” that you will find them listed on the forum profile page too. And everyone in the forum can access your forum profile by simply clicking on “Member” next to your username.

    2. The Learn WordPress.com tutorial is divided into progressive levels and presented as a series: http://learn.wordpress.com/

    3. I don’t know what you mean by pages jumping out of order. In a blog all posts are made to a single running page in the blog and they are displayed in reverse chronological order with the most recent post on top. Posts and Pages are very different but sometime new bloggers don know that. http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/ If you are referring to static pages then see here please > Page attributes > Order > http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/page-attributes/#order

    4. I’m sorry but there isn’t a free and easy way to change fonts. If you are expecting to be able to click a button and change fonts throughout your blog then it’s not that easily done. Any font changes to font families, colors and size in the blog title, tagline, post titles, page titles cannot be done without CSS editing.

There are 4 ways to change fonts on wordpress.com blogs.

    (1) Changing font families, colors and size in text in posts or pages either post by post or page by page by coding into the HTML editor. http://en.support.wordpress.com/editors/font-size-color/

    (2) Changing font colors in text in posts or pages either post by post or page by page using the #4 icon (Select text color – change the text color) in Row 2 the Visual editor. http://en.support.wordpress.com/visual-editor/#row-2

    (3) Changing font families (not colors or sizes) using TypeKit Fonts. http://typekit.assistly.com/customer/portal/articles/6840-using-typekit-with-wordpress-com

    (4) Changing all font families, colors and sizes throughout the blog by purchasing an annually renewable CSS editing upgrade and doing the work yourself. http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-css/
