fonts do not work
-
Hi I have just upgraded to Premium mainly to be able to use FF Dagny on my blog. It turns out it deforms Polish letters (esp L sort of letter), despite Typekit informing that their fonts have Polish letters. Also italics is not working in this font. Could you please check it and hopefully fix it? :(
If it is beyond repair I would like to cancel my premium order. So please let me know asap, as I have already used the domain upgrade that was in the bundle and will want to quit it as well. And there is a time limit to do so if I recall correctly.
Thank you!

I have just noticed that this problem does not occur with all the themes. I am currently experiencing it with ascetica theme, but when previewing e.g. shaan theme the L letter and italics work perfectly with FF Dagny font. I hope it means ascetica is experiencing only some temporary glitch…?

Thanks for reporting this issue. It looks like Ascetica has some issues with Polish characters, even using the default font.
I pasted some of your text into a test site using Ascetica and this is what I see – does it look similar to what you saw?

Thanks for your help.

Not really. But the problem is definitely with Polish characters in what you see as well :) . When my blog was in ascetica (I have already changed it to the columnist, where I like the default font), it looked as if the Polish characters AND italics :) remained in the default mode.
For some reason you have accessed my “dead” blog. I am not sure whether it matters?
Thank you for looking into it. Other themes also have this problem, unfortunately :(

Thanks for the information. Would you mind letting me know the names of some of the other themes where you see the problem, so I can pass the information along to our developers? It might help us figure out what they all have in common.
Would it be possible to show me a screenshot of the problem as well? Here’s a guide on how to make a screenshot, if you’re not sure: http://en.support.wordpress.com/make-a-screenshot/ You can upload the screenshot in your Media Library so I can see it. Thanks.

I don’t think it matters – I was just looking for some Polish text to use for testing. :-)

Hi – I have just discovered that even shaan has the problem – I didn’t notice it at first as the default font is quite similar to ff dagny. I have uploaded three screen shots with ff dagny fonts. the columnist, shaan and even the style (which is not free :)).
So I start to think all themes have this problem.
Thanks for looking into this :)
Perhaps it will be easier for you if you have all Polish characters that are different from English in one place compared to the “normal” ones. So here they are:
aą cć eę lł nń sś zżź

Thanks very much for the screenshots, they’re very helpful.
We noticed that your blog language is currently set to English, under Settings > General:
http://cl.ly/image/0J0j150U3C0LThis is likely what’s causing the font display issues. The way custom fonts work is that if the site is set to a non-Latin language, the font uses all of the characters in the set, but if it’s set to a Latin language, the font uses a smaller, Latin-focused subset that makes for smaller font files and faster load times.
In your case, because your blog was set to English but you were using Polish letters, there was a conflict and the font was not rendering correctly.
Once you’ve changed the site language, would you then go back and re-select FF Dagny and let me know if it displays correctly?
Thanks!

Oh no. Now FF Market does not work. I have saved the screen shot as FF market polish font.
I checked and the Polish language setting is still on :(
Thank you!

I’m glad the FF Dagny issue is solved! Unfortunately FF Market doesn’t support Polish – the supported languages for that font are listed in the sidebar here: https://typekit.com/fonts/ff-market-web
Just let me know if you run into any further issues!

Actually, I did run into another one. Ascetica does not seem to have italics in FF Dagny? Could you have a look into this one as well…? I use a lot of italics and it looks weird.
Thank you!

Hi there, I switched my test site to Ascetica, with FF Dagny for body text and Polish as the site language, and I’m seeing italics OK in posts. Here’s a screenshot:

Could you please show me exactly where the italics are missing on your site so I can have a look? Thanks!
-
Sure. I have uploaded a file “ascetica italics”. It is a completely different font. Even in the link you sent me – if you look carefully at “m” and “n” you will see the difference in the way the letters start and finish :).
Thank you for looking into it. :)

In the link you have sent an even better letter to see the difference is “ł” or “l”. In “mysleństwo” it is a straight line. In “zmieniło” it is curved :)

Thanks for clarifying the specific problem with italics in FF Dagny. It appears to be an issue in English as well. I’ve reported it to our developers so they can have a look.
