Fonts have changed

  • Unknown's avatar

Not sure why but my fonts have changed. This happened once before and I need to know how to get them back. In the customization screen they read correctly as Chunk/Normal and JAF Facit/Large, but they do not show up when I click on the blog.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Maybe I misunderstood but you told me to post the problem here?

I’m so sorry. :( I goofed up by not noticing this thread was now in the CSS Forum where Staff answer support questions. I do apologize. Please be patient while waiting for their help.

So will this show as open or closed?

  • Unknown's avatar

this is an open thread that’s tagged with modlook in the sidebar for Staff support.

Thank you. I have an update to post today and now this…. I checked and my payment is up to date.

This is from August last year….response to same problem:

@disc440, that is great that they are showing up now. I’m going to mark this thread as resolved, but if they misbehave again, feel free to post back into this thread and we will see if we can get to the bottom of what is happening.

What’s required is your patience as Staff work through all forum threads tagged for their attention like this one and through all email support tickets in chronological order based on datestamps and timestamps – first posted first served, as would be expected.

How long it takes to clear the threads and support tickets depends on how many Happiness Engineers are working on them at any given point in time and how many tagged threads and tickets there are. It also depends on how complex the issues in each thread and ticket are are.

I am not sure how long it will take for someone to tackle this problem but I may have to look at other font option in the meantime. I do want my fonts back however. They have been the same since I went with the CSS option.

Hmm, I cannot customize any fonts? Am I the only one with this problem?

  • Hi there,

The fonts I see on your site are the same fonts that I see selected in the Customizer on your site, Abril Fatface and JAF Facit. If you don’t see those fonts the problem might be in your browser.

Can you please tell me exactly what browser and browser version you’re using? You can find that information at http://supportdetails.com Also make sure that that page says that JavaScript is enabled.

Have you tried clearing your browser cache and cookies? Please do that and let me know if it makes no difference.

Okay, my fonts were Chunk/JAF Facit. They suddenly changed. If you will see my comment above I did change Chunk to Abril Fatface because until this problem is resolved it “at least” looked better than what was showing up.

I use IE 11. JavaScript is enabled. I also clear my cache and cookies frequently. Anyway just tried to enable Chunk again and it still does not work. Perhaps it’s a problem with that particular font?

  • It looks like this is restricted to your site – if I use the same font on a different site, with both the same theme and other themes, that font works. It also worked on your site in Chrome, but not in Firefox.

Thinking it might be related to your custom CSS I removed all the CSS and then added it back one rule at a time. The moment I removed the CSS the font worked again, but adding it back didn’t cause the font to stop working, so it’s not the CSS either.

As what I did basically amounts to turning it off and back on again it might be a simple caching issue on our end, but I couldn’t find any reproducible bug, which is what we need to find the cause and fix it.

Can you confirm whether it’s working for you now? Refresh the page using Ctrl-F5 if it’s not showing the correct font when you first load the page (I reactivated Chunk to test and it’s currently appearing on your site for me across browsers).

No it is not working, however I will use the “Fatface” font for now, and see if “Chunk” shows up later. Just hoping other fonts don’t disappear.

Can you tell me now how I get my shortcut link (to home page w/black with black bar at the top (showing dashes for visits, etc.). That has disappeared and I can’t remember how to get it back. I want to be able to click on the shortcut and have that page appear.

  • That’s really strange, as Chunk was showing for me on your site when I wrote the last reply.

Are you referring to the bar with the My Site and Reader links, and the notifications icon (it doesn’t show the stats bar any more)? You should see that on every WordPress.com site, including this forum, if you are logged into your account.

If you’re not seeing that it means your browser isn’t loading it, and that sometimes happens with a slow connection. A slow connection could also explain why the font isn’t working for you, as custom fonts, and in particular Typekit fonts like Chunk, don’t always load over a slow connection.

Try resetting your modem/router and also make sure you have third-party cookies enabled in your browser.

Before this font thing started I had a shortcut to my blog homepage and at the very top was a black bar that said site/reader/dashes for visits, etc.. I want that back but cannot get it to stay. I can click on the link here and it will show up but as soon as I exit and click on it again it’s gone. Sorry for this but I didn’t start it…LOL.

Cleared cache, 3rd party cookies enabled and still nada….sorry. At this point I just want my shortcut to my page. I’ve done the admin thing etc, but when I click out and click on again the top bar is gone…

Not sure if there’s a connection, but in the last week or so my blog has been occasionally displaying unfamiliar fonts. Refreshing the page has fixed it each time but it’s disturbing because if it happens to my readers, they won’t know to refresh the page (and they shouldn’t have to). They’ll just think my blog looks bad, and I really hate looking bad.
