Food Menus in the Confit Theme
-
I have question about using food menus in the Confit theme. I created separate pages for each menu section. The problem is that each page displays all the menu sections. Is there a way to show only one menu section on a page?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hello there,
I checked out your site and it made my hungry.
But most importantly, it appears as if you’ve figured out how to configure your menu as you’d like. Each unique menu page reflects a section of the menu. If I am not correct about this, could you let me know very specifically what you’re looking to accomplish with the appearance of the menu?
Thanks so much and best of luck.

Hi Thanks for helping with this.
I am not presently using the Confit Food Menus on the site. These are just pages with formatted text. I’m creating Confit Food Menus on a test site and this is where I noticed that each page displays all the menu sections.

In this case I don’t want the “Online Marketing” section to appear on all pages.

Hi,
Since you are using a Page, rather than a menu section for Online Marketing Menu, you will want to adjust your Page Attributes.
Here’s how:
- From All Pages, click to edit your Online Marketing Menu.
- In the right-hand column, you’ll see Page Attributes. In the Template drop-down menu, choose Default Template.
- Save your changes.
This way, you’ll only see the information that you’ve manually entered on each Page. When you opt for the Menu Template, then the menu sections will be included.
I hope this helps! Best wishes to you.

Thanks again for helping me with this.
I like the Food Menus in Confit but in the case of Carmen’s Cafe, there are different pages like “Weekend Breakfast and Lunch” and “Weekday Lunch and Dinner”. These pages should display different food items.
I want to use the Menu Template on these pages but I don’t want to display all the food items and sections. I only want to display the food items appropriate for that page. When I use a page as a Menu Template it displays all food items and sections.

Hello again!
Could you tell me which items should NOT appear on the two menus you mentioned? That will help me investigate further.
Also, this would adjust the look of the menus a bit, but I’m wondering if you’ve tried Appearance → Menus. In a custom menu, you can drag and drop the specific menu sections or menu labels you want to appear in each page. You have more control over sculpting you menu that way.
If you haven’t yet tried that, you can create a new custom menu to see if that gives you the functionality you want. Save the new menu created, scroll further down the page, and click Theme locations→Primary Menu to see how it looks on your main page. If you don’t like what you see, you can unclick that option and go back to your original settings.
For more info about customizing your menus, please visit:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/Please let me know the answer to my first question, and then tell me how your experimentation with the custom menu worked for you. I think it’ll give your menus the clarity and specificity you desire.
Thanks!

if you are on this page

I only want the Corporate Identity section and it’s three items showing. Bust you will see that the Online Marketing section has gone along for the ride.
Meanwhile I’ll try what you describe above and let you know how that works.
Thanks again for your help and patience.

Hi there,
I’m getting a little turned around as we keep switching back and forth between sites!
I’ll address http://justinalbany.wordpress.com/design-menu/ first:
I only want the Corporate Identity section and it’s three items showing. Bust you will see that the Online Marketing section has gone along for the ride.
My suggestion is to scrap the menu items on this site. You can simply create Pages. Add the text you want into Corporate Identity, and delete the corresponding menu items.
This is going to give you the look you want on this site, but it’ll keep the creation/maintenance much simpler.
Let me know what you think.

Now, moving on to the Food Menus in Confit on the Carmen’s Cafe site…
I’ve been doing some testing on your site. The problem appears to be that you cannot create multiple menus. You can only create one. So here’s the solution:
- In Appearance → Menus, you can create a Custom Menu and make a new label called Menus (or whatever suits you)
- Go to Food Menus → Menu Sections and create sections entitled:
- Weekly Specials
- Weekday Lunch and Dinner
- Weekend Breakfast and Lunch
- Friday Tapas Menu
- Libations
Return to Appearance → Menus. In your custom menu, you would add each of these sections as sub-menu items of the label, Menus. Make sure this custom menu is selected as the site’s Primary Navigation. Save the menu.
Now, when a user scrolls over Menus, she will be given the option to open one of those sections. And each section will contain only the menu items that you’ve assigned to it.
This will streamline your menu for your visitors, and make it simpler for you to maintain and edit.
Let me know if you have any questions!

OK it took a while but I have something working reasonably well.
See here http://carmenscafetroy.com
I followed your suggestions and created a custom menu, but I was unable to add each of these sections as sub-menu items of the label, Menus.
For now I can re-order the sections as needed. ie. switch to the weekend menu on the weekend.

The site looks lovely. Well done. I think you’ve worked very well with the limitations that the theme presented you. It’s easy to read, and is fun and eye-catching.
If you’d like, you can add a note to the Theme Forums, if you’re hoping for different functionality from the designers.
On a side note, I realized Carmen’s Cafe is close to where my mom went to school at Russell Sage. Small world.
Glad you’re up and running! Wishing you all the very best. Let us know if we can help in the future.

ThatRobyn—
Wow, your Mom went to Sage? They are only three blocks away, so we get a lot of Sage profs & students. Invite your Mom to stop in when she comes back for Alum events— we’d love to say hi!
I just posted on the forums— thanks for the suggestion. Jim G, who you have been talking to, does our web and social media. My post is about the excessive leading and space between paragraphs. It seems like you have to scroll way too much. Maybe it’s that my eye is used to print, but the page just doesn’t look like a menu, it looks like a list.
Thanks for all your help, I’ve been following the conversation and it’s wonderful you stuck with it for so long.
Best,
Jim L

Jim, I will tell my mother to drop in and say hello!
I’m so glad you added your thoughts to your theme’s forum. I’ll keep an eye out and see how it goes. Please drop me a line if you have any other issues or questions about your site.
It was lovely working with Jim G on it and I’m so glad I got to “meet” you. Wishing you all the best!
