Foodbuzz featured blooger allowed on non-vip?
-
I understand that ads are not allowed on wordpress.com blogs unless one is paying for the vip option. Is there any way to tell if a blog is vip? I ask because I see several blogs with the Foodbuzz badge and the ads that accompany it, for example, http://tastyeatsathome.wordpress.com. I was considering joining this Foodbuzz program. Am I right in thinking my only options are to go VIP or self-host?
I tried to find this in the forums, but was still a bit confused. Thanks to all for your time and effort.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Being VIP doesn’t mean just paying the high cost but you have to have at the least 500,000 pageviews a month.

I just looked at that Foodbuzz badge. What is it? Is it like a blog catalog listing service like Blog Catalog or Blog Rankers? If it’s like that, you can place those badges and be fine. We can’t make money or profit though.

Oh, and about telling if a blog is VIP or not. I’m not sure. Maybe someone else might know and help out with that.

@proactivebridesmaid
foodbuzz is NOT the only social network for foodies that has blog registration, allows recipe sharing, and a discussion forum.
http://halfhour meals.com does that too. Both are social networks for foddie bloggers that you can join and post a badge on your blog for if you so choose..

Foodbuzz is a blog catalog of sorts but “featured bloggers” are also paid for advertising, such as what is shown in the block below the badge. Sounds like I’d be better of fsteering clear unless I decide to move away from the free .com blog.
I didn’t realize page view figured into the VIP status. Good to know.
Thanks for the answer. I appreciate it.

@timethief
Thanks for the input. I’ll check out the link. Any comment on the advertising shown bellow the badge Foodbuzz badge? -
Wow! I had no idea that featured foodbuzz bloggers were paid. I’m going back to find where they tucked that information away on that site because if they are American bloggers then they will be required to have a Disclosure Policy posted on their blogs to meet the new Federal Trade Commission (FTC) regulations.
https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/frc-regulation-changes-affect-some-bloggers?replies=11I couldn’t find anything at all on the halfhourmeals site that indicated a payment of any kind being made to members.

I went back to foodbuzz and found this http://www.foodbuzz.com/pages/join-featured-publisher-program I clicked the “join today ico” and found another page here
http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=Ni3jfFm4EaCbyas7i_2b2l0Q_3d_3dThat page in part states this:
“Will I earn money as a Featured Publisher? Yes, monetary compensation comes from the advertisement that we source and distribute on your blog. Our program is designed around sourcing high-quality food-related advertising partners. Like Earthbound Farm, Muir Glen Tomatoes, Fiji Water, and Electrolux, to name a few. Nothing changes on your blog except that you would place a Foodbuzz badge and advertising banner on your site.”
Consequently, this does appear to be no go at wordpress.com where advertising is NOT allowed and the blog(s) in question ought to be reported to Staff.

On my own behalf – you’re welcome. I was amazed to find that featured foodbuzz publishers get paid stuff on an interior “surveymonkey” page. If you hadn’t persisted it’s not likely that I would have found it at all. So if you do intend to join foodbuzz then your answer is yes, you will have to self host
