Footer credit
-
Please can you let me know the different footer credits which show up with free, premium and business accounts? What level of editability is there with the business account? We’re happy to credit wordpress and the theme but as the website is not a blog there should be no reference to blogging.
Thanks!
Flora

Removal of the top Admin bar and/or footer credit links is a Terms of Service violation that results in blog suspension and there is no upgrade that changes that.
Terms of Service:
11. Attribution. Automattic reserves the right to display attribution links such as ‘Blog at WordPress.com,’ theme author, and font attribution in your blog footer or toolbar. Footer credits and the WordPress.com toolbar may not be altered or removed regardless of upgrades purchased. http://en.wordpress.com/tos/
Support docs:
May I remove the Admin Bar, credit links such as ‘Blog at WordPress.com’, theme, font, or toolbar links?
All WordPress.com bloggers are required to maintain the Admin Bar (the dark bar that appears at the top of WordPress.com sites when logged in) as well as credit links, even our VIP bloggers. Please do not hide or alter text or links for the footer credits or the toolbar. Modifying the style of the footer text (i.e. colors and font size) is fine as long as it’s still readable. http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/#frequently-asked-questionsThough removing footer credit links, which leads to the untrue assumption that you designed the theme, and that you are hosting your site yourself is not allowed under the Terms of Service, it’s possible to add your own text to the footer area using CSS, if you have purchased the Business bundle http://store.wordpress.com/plans/business/ or Premium bundle http://store.wordpress.com/plans/premium/ of upgrades, as they contain the Custom Design upgrade.
Then you can include styling credit if you have done any unique styling and/or you can include a copyright notice.

We bloggers do not have access to the template files underlying our themes on wordpress.COM hosted blogs and cannot edit them. This is a multiuser blogging platform. All blogs wearing the same theme use the same underlying template found on the live demo site for each theme.
Does Customize let me edit HTML?
No. Customize allows you to edit fonts, colors, and CSS only. You can change the appearance of a theme, but not its HTML markup or PHP code. If you require this functionality, please consider moving your blog to a web host that supports theme code modifications. You can read more about why here http://support.wordpress.com/code/, and find a suitable host here http://get.wp.com/hosting/.

Thanks timethief, I am aware that they can’t be removed – what I was asking was what are the variants in terms of the different plans? I know for example that the free package includes a note about creating your own website for free – what are the footers for the other plans?
Thanks
Flora

what I was asking was what are the variants in terms of the different plans?
They do not exist. What I posted above applies to all plans ie. to every site hosted by wordpress.COM, including VIP hosted sites.

No. I meant exactly what I said.
No footwer credit links can be removed from any wordpress.COM hosted blogs, regardless of upgrades, as removing them is a violation of the Terms of Service that results in blog suspension.

I’m really sorry I still think that you’re misunderstandingg me, I’m not looking at removing them at all.
I have seen that they vary on different blogs – I wanted to know why they varied ; I had thought it was automatically different depending on your plan and so wanted to know in which way they varied – do they always reference blogging? I can see they don’t always include the line about creating a free site.

A blog is a website. They vary in accord with what each theme designer chooses to place there. There is no theme filter to isolate any themes that do not use any references to the blogging phrases that you refer to in the footer credit links.
