  Does anyone know if there is a theme that allows user friendly footnotes without having to use html codes.

  Or a simpler workaround than a href tags.

  In general no, but there are Anotum themes (Annotum Base or Annotum Sans) which do allow footnote references. These are specialist themes aimed at scholarly journals, so you will either be thinking “that’s exactly what I want” or they won’t be for you.

  Or you could try using Microsoft WORD to create the document and then use Windows Live writer to upload it into your blog.
