Footnotes and Word-breaking Solution

    Last Fall I posted a recurring problem with footnotes in the classic editor: browsers inserting a break between the punctuation mark and the footnote (<sup> [number] </sup>). Nobody appeared to have a solution. But I think I have discovered one: between the punctation mark and the <sup> command, insert this word-joiner code: ⁠⁠.

    Drat. the code didn’t get printed. I’ll add a couple of spaces: ⁠& #8288 ; Hopefully this will work.
