Footnotes, MS Word, LibreOffice and WP editors

    Hi
MS Word and LibreOffice documents having footnotes were processed correctly by the Classic Editor when copying them into the editor: footnotes appear correctly on the post and a click on the footnote mark takes you to the footnote and the other way around

Now classic editor disappeared, and footnote processing with it. With Gutenberg, neither a copy from a MS Word or a Libreoffice document into Gutenberg produces correct footnotes.

    Another regression of Gutenberg :(

Dear WordPress.com, any information about that ?

    Cheers,

  • Hi there,

Footnotes work on WordPress.com because WordPress.com supports Markdown content, and Markdown supports footnotes. WordPress itself does not have any support for footnotes built in.

To use Markdown in the block editor you have to specifically use the Markdown block:

    Markdown Block

That said, footnotes don’t currently work in that block, and our developers are working on fixing this. In the meantime you can still find the classic editor if you create/edit your posts from within WP-Admin at https://hakeshet.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.php
