  I’m trying desperately to move a wordpress.com site to another hosting solution, and all I can find is a content exporter.

  For more details:

  We’ve designed a site, it’s theme and initial content on wordpress.com and now want to move it to our own hosting solution, but there seems to be no way to just package the source code up and move it. Is there a way to actually move the site, or is the best I can do get the initial posts?

  you can export the site – there is no zip file of the whole database etc

  export will move Posts, Pages and comments but not the theme and widgets and such

  Thanks for your reply. I was afraid of that. I can’t for the life of me figure out why it’s so hard to just pack the whole thing up.

  I don’t know about the under the hood thing but I think it has something to do with a different database structure.

  I have moved a couple of sites with the export / import routine and it worked Ok for me – not being able to get to the media library annoys me
