I am browsing blog hosting and wep page hosting sites. Can anyone here tell me if WordPress will fit my needs?
I need to create a site that is very organized and easily searchable. I need to have specific categories with topics being added to each week/month I need to be able to receive stories/ideas from readers and insert them under the corresponding topics to the readers’ credit. I also need a space where in the future, advertisers may place their ads.In general, I need something that I can easily add to or change often. I am not totally PC illiterate, I know a little html but I know very little about creating a web site from scratch & afraid what I am wanting to do will be very complicated. Will WordPress fit my needs? Is it easy to use for this sort of thing?
On the top sticky about the diff between WordPress.com & WordPress.org, it says that with .org if you mismanage your web hosting you could lose your entire page. What does that mean exactly?

If you need to allow advertising, then you would want to go with WordPress.org, as there are no ads or affiliate links allowed on WordPress.com blogs. To ensure that you have a host that is good at supporting WordPress installs (to answer your last concern), try selecting one of hte ones actually recommended at http://wordpress.org/hosting
