Force desktop view on mobile devices for my WordPress.com blog

    Hi there,

    The theme I use for my blog with wordpress.com is twenty twelve.

    I’ve added a few widgets and wanted my blog to maintain its exact desktop look while accessing it from mobile devices (at this time, all widgets go all the way to the very bottom of the page on mobile view).

    Is there a way to force desktop view of my blog by default while accessing it from tablets or smartphones?

    PS: It seems like there would be a very easy way to do this if I were using WordPress.org, but in my case I use WordPress.com (as shown in the video https://youtu.be/F8qokn4vLew). So I am assuming it might be possible to work on a solution by the option “appearance” then “customize” then “CSS” on my dashboard (I have no knowledge on CSS so far).

    Hi there,

    It is technically possible to disable the responsive CSS in your theme and force a desktop view on mobile, but we do not provide help to do this, as we consider this to be intentionally breaking your site.

    By doing this you’ll be making it more difficult for people on mobile devices to use your site, and it will cause your site to be severely penalised in terms of SEO by all major search engines.

    Is there a way to just prevent widgets from going all the way down to the bottom of the page on mobile view?

    (It is not my intention to “break the rules”; my apologies to the Staff, Bro.)

    Hi there,

    That’s not possible as this is how this theme is designed. Making those kinds of “big” changes to a site would break it and make it unusable.

    My suggestion is to try several other themes and find one the fits your needs.

    Ah, that will work. Thanks for following up, @brunocastello.

    Just noting, most modern themes will have different views for desktop and mobile, since it’s awfully hard to read tiny text on a small screen. If you’d like, though, you’d be welcome to click through the demos at https://wordpress.com/themes both on your desktop and on your phone, so you can compare them to see which ones you like best in both formats.
