  Hi, I was forced to register this account, just to be able to unsubscribe from emails coming from the WordPress.com hosted site Horror Game News.

  Why do your unsubscribe links not just have a unique code to instantly unsubscribe you without logging in? In this case, it’s obviously terrible UX since I didn’t even have an account (and I didn’t sign up for their emails as well…).

  This behaviour is ridiculous.

  I appreciate you bringing this up. If you were simply looking to unsubscribe, the steps involved might not have been what you expected.

  When someone subscribes to a website on WordPress.com, they receive a confirmation email titled “Confirm your subscription.” That message includes the following:

  “To get you up and running, please confirm your email address by clicking below. This will set you up with a WordPress.com account you can use to manage your subscription preferences.”

  This means that when a subscription is confirmed, a WordPress.com account is automatically created using the provided email address. That account allows you to manage all your subscriptions in one place.

  You can view and manage your current subscriptions by visiting: https://wordpress.com/reader/subscriptions

  While the account helps with subscription control, it also gives access to additional features — like starting your own website, purchasing domains, exploring themes and plugins, and more — all from one centralized dashboard. Of course, you’re not required to use those features if you only want to manage subscriptions.

  If you no longer wish to keep your WordPress.com account, you can delete it at any time from your account settings: https://wordpress.com/me/account
