Hello there,
Staff do provide support for CSS editing but as it’s the weekend you may have to wait until Monday for their assistance. You will need to provide an active link starting with http:// to the blog wearing the Forever theme, as the one linked to your username is wearing the Spectrum theme. -
The blog using the Forever theme on which I’m trying to edit the CSS is http://robertsampsonmemorial.com/
thanks very much -
You don’t need a custom design upgrade to change the font color on the Blog Title in Forever.
Go here > Appearance > Header
scroll down to:
Header Text
Show header text with your image.

Thank you! Can’t believe we didn’t notice that…
Do you see how we can decrease the padding around the header and the subtitle? -
I don’t help with CSS editing but Staff does and I expect they will reposnd to this thread on Monday.

Timethief, thank you for your generosity with your time!… we’ll see what the Staff might say tomorrow.

To remove some of the spacing above the site title in the Forever theme, adjust the 2em number in this example to your liking:
#masthead { padding: 2em 0 0; }The spacing surrounding the tagline comes from a few different elements. To remove all of that spacing, add this:
#main { padding-top: 0; } #access { margin-bottom: 0; } #site-description { padding: 0; }You can adjust the numbers to add back spacing as necessary. For example, to add one line of spacing above and below the tagline site description, add this:
#main { padding-top: 0; } #access { margin-bottom: 0; } #site-description { padding: 1em 0; } -

I also want to remove the awkward excess white space in the header. Do I have to upgrade to premium to edit the CSS? Do I have to self-host as well?
I’m at http://www.thingstocherish.wordpress.com
Thanks!

To make customizations such as the ones described above on a WordPress.com blog, you do need to purchase the Custom Design upgrade.
Switching to your own web hosting account separate from WordPress.com is quite different. Go to http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/ to learn more about the differences, and let us know if you still have any questions. It looks like you may have figured out what you need though as http://thingstocherishblog.com/ looks great. :)
