Forgotten Log in credentials
-
This is a long term issue which started when we began creating our new website for apartment rentals. The site I linked has been created in maybe 2001 by our company and the person that created it (no one remembers who) is no longer working for us. I have tried to gather information on who has created the site so that I could log in as admin and deactivate the site so that we could launch the new one.
So the question is as follows, would it be possible for you to deactivate the site or get us back logged in to the admin page for some kind of proof of ownership?
Thank you!

Hi there!
You’ve posted to the free support forums for websites hosted here at WordPress.com. To avoid confusion, there are three different “WordPress” at play here:
- The free, open-source WordPress software which powers your website.
- WordPress.org which is the open-source project that works on the WordPress software and where you can get the software for free to use on your own hosting provider.
- WordPress.com which is a managed hosting provider of the WordPress software and with whom you’re contacting now.
Since your site is not hosted with us, we have no access to nor the ability to affect anything on your site. I would recommend reaching out to your hosting provider for help with this issue. Since they’re hosting your site’s files, they also have access to those files and are the best ones to help you regain access to your site.
If you’re not sure who your hosting provider is, you can use a website like Hosting Checker to get more information.
If you still have trouble, please reach out to the WordPress community for guidance:

I hope that helps!
