form width

I’ve set the form width to 75% but in preview mode it still shows 100% span. Even if I publish the update it’s still full width. I’ve tried adding columns on both sides, but it still shows 100% width.

  • Hi there,

I see that you are using the Illustratr theme, which is an older “Classic” theme that was launched before we had our current block editor. While this older theme does support the majority of blocks in the editor, it may struggle with some layout options (such as width settings) because it was not created with blocks in mind.

I’ve reported this issue to our theme team so they can take a closer look, but given the age ow your theme this is an issue that may continue to come up in other places as the block editor continues to evolve and new features are added.

With this in mind, I would recommend that you consider switching to one of the more modern themes here, all of with are 100% compatible with the block editor. In my tests the layout you are creating for your homepage will work just fine in these newer themes, so switching will immediately resolve the issue you are facing with the Illustratr theme.

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.

The theme already had a form block when I installed it. It was inline with contact information. I was just trying to size the form down. If I install another theme and reinstall the Illustratr theme, will that reset the form at least back to what it was?

Changing themes only seems to be changing the background color and typeface now. None of the blocks change.

  • Hello there,

Changing themes wouldn’t change the content or remove the form from the page.

I can see a form on a draft page, which is set into a column, is this the form you’re referring to? I can see this form is not at full width currently.

At this point I don’t even know what’s going on anymore.

When I’m editing, I see two forms, one inline with the contact and one in a separate block below. It doesn’t matter which one I delete, when I publish, either the other one that I didn’t delete or both are still there. There seems to be a lag or error between editing and publishing. But even closing the browser, reloading the page, restarting my computer doesn’t change the results. The only thing I haven’t tried is clearing my cache.

And apparently there’s a radio button you can select to override the content already on your page to the new theme. But I wasn’t given this option the first time I changed themes. There’s also no option to select which elements remain and which ones can be overwritten, which is unfortunate because now I have to start over.

I don’t remember which version you looked at. I’ve since changed themes several times to try and fix the width issue.

  • Hi ifangaroo, I’ll take a look. Could you also get screenshots of what you’re seeing, and upload them here? https://wordpress.com/media

Here are tips on making screenshots:

  • OK, I’m not seeing any forms currently, likely you’re amid more changes:

We can help you sort it out, it just takes time in the community forums for free sites. If you can put up a form so we can see what you’re seeing, then update us here and wait for a response, I’m sure we can help.

Or, if you plan on upgrading the site when you’re done, note your plan would probably come with chat support & it may make sense to get that sooner than later.
